Australian Police Raid Home of Rumored Bitcoin 'Founder'

Recently, Australian police raided a house owned by Craig Wright. Foreign media Wired and Gizomodo pointed out that Wright is likely the man behind Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, whose identity has never been confirmed. The Guardian said that more than 10 police officers raided the house in the suburb of Golden, Sydney at 1:30 pm local time on December 9. They wore white gloves and conducted a careful search of the cabinets and storage areas in the house.

The police raid came just six hours after reports emerged linking Wright to Bitcoin, but police issued a statement saying their actions had nothing to do with the reports.

The Guardian also stated that the raid on Wright's home was the result of an investigation by the Australian Taxation Office.

According to a copy of the Australian Taxation Office document released by foreign media Gizmodo , the government agency met with Wright in February last year, during which they discussed matters related to Bitcoin. The document states that Wright said: "I tried everything to hide the fact that I started running Bitcoin in 2009, but I think it eventually became something that more than half of the world already knew." The Australian Taxation Office told the Guardian that it could not make any response to the matter due to legal confidentiality obligations. But in any case, this document does reflect the fact that Wright is very likely to play an important role in the creation of Bitcoin.

In addition, Gizmodo also found a suspicious email during the investigation, which was sent by Wright's lawyer to a lawyer of Clayton Utz. The address of the email is related to Satoshi Nakamoto, and the name signed on it is likely to be Craig. The question is whether the sender of this email has contacted the Australian Taxation Office to discuss Bitcoin regulation. In December of that year, the Australian government stipulated that virtual currencies should be included in the scope of capital gains tax.

To date, the identity of Bitcoin's founder remains a mystery.
