Distributed file storage startup Storj Labs has become the latest blockchain service provider to join Microsoft’s Blockchain as a Service (BaaS) platform. Storj announced the news in a blog post, outlining how they are creating a decentralized marketplace for unused disk space, where users can buy and sell disk space in exchange for Storj’s cryptocurrency, SJCX. Prior to this, Microsoft just added Augur, BitShares, Lisk and Syscoin to their development testbed or BaaS platform in March. Microsoft has previously hinted that it does not intend to limit the number of blockchain providers included in the beta version of its BaaS service. Microsoft has said it may launch a more formal verification service this spring, at which point blockchain service providers are expected to undergo more rigorous scrutiny. Storj was founded in 2014 and raised $500,000 worth of Bitcoin in a public crowdsale that year.
