Russian Information Minister: We will weigh how to use blockchain technology based on the interests of the masses

According to Russian news outlet TASS, Russian Information Minister尼古拉·阿纳托利耶维奇·尼基福洛夫spoke about blockchain technology yesterday at Russia's "Internet Economy" forum and expressed interest in the technology.

Nikiforov said:

“Blockchain technology is a very interesting new technology that can be applied to many fields, not just digital currencies. We will weigh how to use this technology based on the interests of the public.”

Nikiforov said that the Russian Ministry of Information will further study this technology. He believes that in the future this distributed ledger technology will help Russia's economic development and help the government and the people communicate.

We need to see how this technology develops over the next 5 to 10 years to determine how this technology can help the country's economic development and improve the relationship between the country and the public. There are a lot of possibilities in this technology.

Although the Russian government’s attitude towards Bitcoin is not friendly, its attitude towards Bitcoin’s underlying technology, blockchain technology, is relatively positive.

Not long ago, Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank, expressed its intention to join the R3 blockchain alliance. The bank’s vice chairman also pointed out that the Russian Central Bank has not changed its “negative attitude” towards digital currencies such as Bitcoin.

In October this year, Russian Deputy Finance Minister Alexi Moiseev revealed that a draft law on digital currency was under discussion. If passed, it would mean that Russian citizens who engage in digital currency exchange for legal currency would face four years in prison.

Nikiforov was born in the 1980s and brought an iPad with him when he accepted the presidential appointment. He encouraged young people to "be confident, don't be a car salesman, start an IT company, obtain patents, and enter the global market." Therefore, it is reasonable for him to be interested in new technologies such as blockchain.
