BigchainDB Releases World-Class Blockchain Database with Unlimited Access

BigchainDB today launched IPDB, a world-class Internet blockchain database, in Berlin.

IPDB stands for Interplanetary Database, which is a decentralized world computer database that provides decentralized control, immutability, and the ability to create and trade digital assets. The IPDB Foundation has announced that it is responsible for the database.

As a world-class database, IPDB can achieve decentralized control and has a sound management system. Its operation relies entirely on administrators (caretakers) from all over the world who can manage the entire network and foundation. Therefore, no matter where you are, you can use IPDB.

So far, 13 organizations have confirmed their roles as IPDB caretakers, including the Internet Archive, Interplanetary File System (IPFS), blockchain startup Blockstack, Ethereum ecosystem company ConsenSys, Internet security company OpenMedia, Eris Industries (dedicated to smart contracts and blockchain software development), Tendermint (open source blockchain socket protocol), and UnMonastery. More caretakers will join in the coming week. Nearly half of the caretakers are non-profit organizations that share a commitment to build an open, decentralized Internet environment.

IPDB opens its doors to the world.

Greg McMullen, Director of the IPDB Foundation, said:

Blockchain technology creates a decentralized world computer. The establishment of IPDB allows everyone to use this computer. IPDB will eventually become a decentralized organization, run entirely by software.

Currently, the call for decentralization of the Internet is getting louder and louder, and more and more summits are actively exploring this possibility. For example, the Decentralized Web Summit co-organized by McMullen and the Internet Archive will be held in San Francisco, USA on June 8. Such conferences will facilitate the cooperation of many leading companies and celebrities to jointly create a decentralized Internet environment.
