Taiwanese media: A couple lied about making tens of millions a month from Bitcoin and defrauded NT$50 million

ETTV reporters Lin Yuquan and Zhan Qianyan/Taipei report

A couple surnamed Shi in Taipei City used messaging software LINE and WeChat to call on investors to invest in the virtual currency "Bitcoin", claiming that they could earn tens of millions per month. Nearly 1,000 people were very interested, but they didn't expect that the money was invested without a trace. The couple surnamed Shi kept making excuses, and now the victim has set up a self-help group and called the police. After the news was published, the man surnamed Shi apologized on Facebook, saying that it was absolutely not true.

The victim, Vivian, said, "We should make this public. If we lose money, it doesn't matter. But today I feel that we didn't lose money. We were deceived. We were cheated." She thought it was a good time to invest in Bitcoin, but she didn't expect to be defrauded. "I invested about 16 Bitcoins in succession. If 16 Bitcoins are worth 14,000, it is about 216,000. I haven't received a penny back."

A couple surnamed Shi set up a group on messaging apps like LINE and WeChat, and similar to a pyramid scheme, recruited people they knew to invest together, claiming that they could make tens of millions a month. Vivian pointed out, "The principal was only about 40,000, and if you say 2.5 to the sixth power, it can be rolled up to tens of millions. He just keeps sending out this message."

The conditions of compounding money are very attractive, and they also said that one should never miss this opportunity to turn wealth around. They even said that they received more than 50 million in their account in 6 days. The investors were very excited and said that they could realize their dreams. They even thanked the man surnamed Shi for providing this platform. Unexpectedly, the money was invested, but there was no sound.

Vivian said, "There were 400 problem orders that he had to deal with. The next day he said that someone had placed 300 or 100 large orders in front of him, and he had to send them to the large orders first. He had a lot of problems and kept making excuses." The Shi couple had many excuses and kept making excuses. They set up several Bitcoin groups, and nearly a thousand people accused them of being defrauded.

As soon as the news came out, the man surnamed Shi immediately clarified on Facebook, emphasizing that it was absolutely not true. He also provided relevant evidence and said that he would not evade and would face it bravely. He has now promised to return 16% of the principal to the investors. However, the investors are of course not satisfied and only hope to get their hard-earned money back.
