SVPool mining pool encountered a mirror website scam, Bitcoin SV miners' reputation may be affected

One of the oldest tactics in online fraud is to register a domain name that is very similar to the official website, making it look exactly the same as the official website, and thus deceiving users who try to log in to the official website. This tactic is also common in the cryptocurrency industry, which is why cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance remind users on their login pages to "always check the URL address bar in the browser", because once investors are deceived, it is likely to cause irreversible damage.

Now, SVPool.com, the Bitcoin SV mining pool of the Bitcoin Cash fork, has encountered this problem. It is reported that SVPool.com has sent an email to all registered users on its platform, notifying them that they may be subject to a fraud scam. According to the information disclosed in the email, the fraudsters used a website address of "SVPool.co", which is only one letter different from the official website address - the "m" in "com". After the user completes the registration, he will be tricked into paying cryptocurrency to purchase the so-called Bitcoin SV computing power. This is obviously an outright scam, and it also affects the reputation of real Bitcoin SV miners, because the victims can easily think that this fake website is operated by Bitcoin SV miners.

The following is a screenshot of SVPool.com’s official website:

Below is a screenshot of the SVPool.co fraud website:

SVPool.com stated in its official email release:

“When users click on the fraudulent website, many web pages will display a 404 error, and in some cases, they will even take users to the error page of the registration party. However, since the fraudulent website can be connected to SVPool’s social media accounts, it looks very similar to the official website. However, if you complete the registration and enter the customer area, the fraudulent website will ask you to use Bitcoin in exchange for Bitcoin SV computing power. Data from SVPool.com’s Blockchair wallet manager shows that so far no transactions have been related to the fraudulent website, but we still hope that users will pay attention and not be deceived by this fraudulent website ending with the suffix ‘co’.”

Bear market makes cryptocurrency fraudsters more diverse

Whenever there are major changes in the cryptocurrency industry, fraudsters always come up with many new tricks. Today's bear market environment has also allowed many scams that have never been seen before to appear in the market - for example, some people claim to be able to help you protect free forked coins and then obtain leaked private key information; others create fake wallets and custody services to directly steal funds, and so on.

In fact, cryptocurrency fraud has existed since the birth of Bitcoin, which is why many people are still deceived today. As for SVPool.com, due to the limitations of the domain name registration mechanism, they do not seem to be able to force the fraudulent website "SVPool.co" to close. The only way is to notify its users as much as possible to be cautious.
