The Paper: Beijing's investigation into data center involvement in cryptocurrency is true

Wu Blockchain learned that according to The Paper, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology issued an "Emergency Notice on Investigating the Situation of Bitcoin and Other Cryptocurrency Mining Business in Our City's Data Centers". The notice requires a review of the relevant situations involving Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency mining in the business carried by Beijing's data centers. If relevant units are involved in related businesses, they must provide feedback on the power consumption of mining business in the past year and the proportion of total energy consumption before 12:00 noon on April 28.

In response, the Beijing Bureau of Economics and Information Technology responded to The Paper on the afternoon of April 29, saying that the notice was indeed issued by the bureau, and that it was mainly to sort out and investigate the types of business carried by data centers and energy consumption, which was the normal business work of the bureau. However, the Beijing Bureau of Economics and Information Technology did not respond to The Paper about the results of the investigation. It is almost impossible for data centers to mine Bitcoin, but Ethereum, Filecoin, Chia, and small currencies can be mined.

Wu said that the use of data centers for mining depends on the nature of the data center. If a public data center is used for mining, there will be serious problems. But if it is a private data center for mining, there may be no major legal problems.
