Blockchain technology will become mainstream within the next decade

Deutsche Bank believes that blockchain technology will become more common in the next decade.

The banking giant has previously conducted blockchain-based trials to study programmable bonds.

While the bank declined to identify the two vendors it worked with in the trial, Deutsche Bank told CoinDesk in an email:

“The blockchain proof of value testing was completed successfully. Corporate bonds were ideal for testing the lifecycle of blockchain on an asset (issuance, coupon, redemption), so we chose it; at this stage, we are no longer pursuing smart bonds as the bank’s first commercial product.”

"We don't reveal what we are studying next," added spokesman Nicolas Nonnenmacher.

The bank said the test resulted in two convincing answers and generated new questions that will help blockchain be further studied in the future.

Deutsche Bank’s recent tests focused on programmable bonds because the bank wanted to explore “the concept of the lifecycle of smart contracts,” the spokesperson said. This process required running different kinds of blockchain research tracks simultaneously.

Spokesperson Nonnenmacher explained:

“The results show that blockchain technology achieves all the desired results, but further testing of these pilot examples is now needed to fully test the scalability or stability of blockchain.”

Deutsche Bank began researching blockchain applications last year, and its banking group has also begun to pay attention to the application of the technology. The bank told CoinDesk that an important result of this experiment is that blockchain technology "will change the business model of many financial companies" and may see many product upgrades.

“There will be many permissioned blockchains… being able to move between them is going to be very important.

“The bank said Deutsche Bank said it expects commercial products involving blockchain to be available within the next two years.
