Author: Mia While people of all ages can commit crimes, it is not uncommon for minors to sell hard drugs for money. However, in Ukraine, the reality is that law enforcement recently arrested a minor who was suspected of operating an online platform for the sale of hard drugs. The drugs sold on the platform include heroin, cocaine and methadone, which are addictive and are also considered serious illegal drugs in Ukraine. Although selling these drugs can be exchanged for Bitcoin and make huge profits, there is no good ending in the end. The young man was eventually arrested. The Ukrainian student was able to easily start a hard drug business online through the Tor protocol, which is a worrying sign for young people who are familiar with cybercrime. So how do people use the Tor protocol? Anyone who wants to buy hard drugs has to install special software and then access the website without a search engine. Of course, ordinary browsers can also access the website. In today's Internet world, if merchants want to respect customer privacy, the easiest way is to support Bitcoin payments, but this payment method is not anonymous. In a recent raid, police confiscated more than 50,000 hryvnias (Ukrainian currency unit), equivalent to $1,825, of hard drugs, but officials did not specify whether Bitcoin was confiscated during the raid. During the raid, the police obtained a list of people who had dealt hard drugs with the student, and according to the current trial, the minor may be sentenced as an adult, which means he may face 12 years in prison. Oleg Yagolnik said that such a crime violated Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. But the more important question is whether law enforcement officers can find out who is behind the drug supply to this student. It is impossible for a 12-year-old teenager to sell drugs through the Tor website, so he is very likely to have accomplices. Although digital currency is not anonymous, Bitcoin payments seem to be favored by cybercriminals. Anyone can track a transaction in real time on the blockchain. Although Bitcoin provides a certain degree of privacy protection for customers, it is simply not feasible to transfer money anonymously online through Bitcoin. |
