IEEE Computer Society expects blockchain adoption in 2017

Rage Review : The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Computer Society expects to adopt blockchain and other technologies in 2017. The association said that blockchain technology, the technology behind Bitcoin, still has many disruptive uses and may change the way many activities or operations are done in the past. Many business people predict that by 2022, there will be a wave of technology applications, and many high-tech technologies will enter people's vision and lives.

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Computer Society — the computing industry’s leading source of technical information and career development — said it will embrace blockchain, among other technologies, in 2017.

The IEEE Computer Society expects the following technologies to be introduced in 2017: Industrial Internet of Things, self-driving cars; artificial intelligence, machine learning, cognitive computing; 5G, blockchain; hyper-converged systems; accelerators; disaggregated memory - networked non-volatile memory (NVM); sensors and edge computing.

The IEEE Computer Society said:

“As the technology behind Bitcoin, blockchain has many disruptive uses and may change the way we do many activities in the past, including elections, financial transactions, property rights and ownership, anti-counterfeiting, digital copyright management, etc., without the need for a central agency (breaking the bottleneck of intermediaries) to ensure the security of operations.”

In five years (by 2022), there will be a wave of technology adoption, including rebooting computing, human-brain interfaces, power-hardware protection, Exascale supercomputing, networked non-volatile memory, silicon photonics, smart network adapters (NICs), and Power Conservative Multicores.

Those making the predictions include HP senior fellow Paolo Faraboschi, data scientist Eitan Frachtenberg, IEEE Computer Society president-elect Hironori Kasahara, Pennsylvania State University professor Phil Laplante, HP distinguished technologist and IEEE Computer Society past president Dejan Milojicic, and IEEE Computer Society past president John Walz.
