1. How to manage concurrency of employees. How to adjust the scheduler? Thanks for your question! The scheduler is designed to automatically manage concurrency across workers. For a detailed explanation of how this works, watch this recent webinar: https://youtu.be/rwz8XIs6miE We know it's not perfect yet! If you notice any issues, especially deadlocks, resource starvation, or worker idling, please submit an issue using the sealed issue template: https://github.com/filecoin-project/lotus/issues/new/choose We also invite suggestions on how to improve the scheduler! Please share your suggestions here: https://github.com/filecoin-project/lotus/issues/3498 2. Can you give us an extended explanation of Filecoin’s EIP 1559? EIP1559 introduces the concept of network fees and a dynamic fee adjustment mechanism for spam protection. Gas is a measure of how much storage or computational resources an on-chain message consumes. Therefore, GasUsage * BaseFee is burned to compensate the network. In addition, the message sender specifies GasPremium, which is the priority fee for miners to include the message, regardless of gas usage (this is what differentiates Filecoin from EIP1559). Therefore, the profit miners get from information inclusion has not changed, and it should be easier to reason about incentives. 3. I am not very familiar with Filecoin and Web3, but I know it is the future. What can I do to ensure that I get the most benefit from the APOLLO plan? The best way to get the most out of the APOLLO program https://gitcoin.co/hackathon/filecoin/onboard is to make sure you attend all the sessions (or attend online if you can’t) and do the relevant reading and tutorials. This is an incredible opportunity to build relationships with other people and teams working on Filecoin! For those unfamiliar, APOLLO is a six-week program designed for entrepreneurs, builders, and makers interested in the Filecoin ecosystem to continue working or launch new projects using the Filecoin and Web3 ecosystem. 4. I want to get rewards for being an active community member on slack. On average, I spend at least 2 hours on slack every day. Can I? It’s been awesome to see so much support for each other on Slack! We’re figuring out the best ways to recognize and reward our most active and helpful community members, so stay tuned! 5. My scheduler is not assigning jobs to certain workers! When I do a pledge of the lotus miner division, it commits briefly but then disappears. What can I do? Thanks for asking! We are actively investigating this issue, please follow these instructions for updates: https://github.com/filecoin-project/lotus/issues/3500 6. When will the code be frozen? We consider the Lotus code to be feature frozen and close to mainnet-ready. At this point, we are fully focused on fixing bugs, improving performance, and improving UX and documentation. The rate of these changes will drop over the next few weeks as mainnet launches! 7. What are the penalties for failed sectors and how do we fix them? A sector failure fee (equivalent to 2.14 days of block reward) is charged for each day that a sector is in a failed state. This failure fee is set so that the risk imposed by this penalty decreases rapidly once storage reliability exceeds a reasonable threshold. Miners are encouraged to monitor and report failures as quickly as possible (currently automatic in Lotus, but it is recommended that miners have their own monitoring and reporting toolchain). If the chain detects that a sector is failed, then the miner is fined the sector failure detection fee for that sector. Miners are encouraged to recover from failures as quickly as possible, and to announce recovery once the sector is fixed. 8. What is the total amount of rewards for the Space Race? Why is it always changing? The total possible incentive pool for the Space Race has increased from 4 million FIL to 4.5 million FIL today. The reason for the increase in rewards is that participation has far exceeded our imagination, and we want to give miners a bigger goal! Please note that these are total possible rewards - as miners add storage to the network, they will unlock higher reward targets. 9. Does the sector change from "deleted state" to "deleted state"? How long does it take? A: Yes, a sector being removed will automatically go into sectorremove (or SectorRemoveFailed). This should happen fairly quickly. 10. How do we resolve the pending store transaction issue? Most miners have been experiencing this issue since we upgraded to 0.5.6 A recent dashboard upgrade added the ability to view pending transactions – previously, it only showed completed transactions, which made troubleshooting more difficult for miners. If you find that your storage trades are stuck in "Pending" on your dashboard for a long time, but show as "Verifying" on your side, this is a bug with the trading bot (not Lotus), not your fault. We are aware of this and are working on a fix. 11. Why do I lose hashrate every day, but the log only shows TODO? Typically this is caused by a failure to submit a PoSt. There could be many reasons for this – your hardware could be too slow due to custom configuration or it could be tied up with other tasks. If you cannot find any logs in your miner indicating that PoSts cannot be produced or submitted, please file an issue on GitHub including your Lotus version and miner ID. 12. For your convenience, please leave a link to the minimum and recommended specifications to start storage mining. Thank you. Is a GPU required? You can find our hardware recommendations here: https://docs.filecoin.io/mine/#hardware-recommendations You can also find community-generated benchmark results here: https://github.com/filecoin-project/benchmarks A GPU is required for storage mining (winning block rewards) 13. When is the last day to sign up for the Space Race? Standard registration (for miners already mining) ends at 22:00 UTC on Monday, August 31. Late registration (for new miners who have not seen the chain before and who have no other miners in the game) is open until 22:00 UTC on Thursday, September 10. 14. What is the official end date/time of the Space Race? The Space Race ends on Monday, September 14th at 21:59 UTC. You can view the full rules here: https://docs.filecoin.io/mine/spacerace/#how-do-i-participate We will take a snapshot of the rankings every day, so if the network gets too excited at the end, don't worry - we will still have plenty of information to calculate rewards correctly. 15. Chinese miners are facing crazy DDOS attacks, and those decentralized miners are gaining benefits. Is this fair? DDOS mitigation is very specific to your personal setup, but the same strategies available in cloud infrastructure (e.g., rate limiting per IP or prioritizing certain IPs) apply equally to Filecoin mining. The cost of a DDoS attack on a network as large as Filecoin would be very high given that the network is so decentralized. If you set up your firewall to limit traffic, or even block IPs when they show abusive patterns, you should be able to overcome most common DDoS potential attacks. It’s well worth taking the time to figure this out, as you’ll also need to maintain connectivity on the mainnet. 16. Is the upper limit of each partition 2349 sectors? What is the correlation between the number of storage disks and the number of partitions? I see they match. 64 GiB transactions are capped at 2349 sectors per partition, and this number varies based on the sector size. You can find them and some explanations here: https://github.com/filecoin-project/rust-fil-proofs/blob/master/filecoin-proofs/src/constants.rs#L92-L101 17. If a worker number is abandoned and is unable to submit window releases indefinitely, will the worker number continue to extract FIL from its owner’s wallet? A: No, if you shut down a miner, it will never withdraw FIL from the owner or worker addresses. However, you will be slashed your entire sector collateral, since we hold all your trading collateral, so you should probably never do this!
