Iran's Electricity Company Warns Illegal Crypto Mining Could Lead to Another Power Cut

On October 11, Iran's National Electricity Company warned through the state news agency IRNA on Sunday that illegal cryptocurrency mining activities may lead to power outages in the country again this winter.

The statement pointed out that if power cuts occur at that time, illegal crypto mining will be held 10% responsible.

Previously, such activities were responsible for 20% of power cuts during the summer. Iran banned all crypto mining in May this year and lifted the ban in mid-September. Iran reportedly mines about 19,500 bitcoins per year, out of a global total of 324,000, and the country trades about 700 bitcoins per day.
