It’s settled! Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract is officially released, and the mainnet is expected to be launched on December 1st

According to news on November 5th, Beijing time, the Ethereum Foundation today confirmed for the first time the release time of Ethereum 2.0 Phase 0, which is around 20:00 pm, Beijing time, December 1st (Unix timestamp 1606824000). In addition, the deposit contract of Ethereum 2.0 is now online, and Ethereum founder Vitalik forwarded the confirmation as soon as possible.

The news also marks the first time that the exact date for the release of Ethereum 2.0 has been confirmed after years of planning and delays.

Ethereum users who want to become stakers can now deposit 32 ETH into the deposit contract through a dedicated launchpad to prepare for the mainnet launch.

It is reported that the contract must collect 16,384 deposits of 32 ETH, totaling 524,288 ETH, to launch the mainnet, and the required amount must be met 7 days before the expected block height of 1606824000. If the collection is not completed, the mainnet launch time will be postponed to 7 days after the threshold is achieved.

The end of one journey also marks the beginning of another. The launch of Phase 0 will not directly affect the existing Ethereum blockchain, which will continue to run with the proof-of-work consensus algorithm.

The transition between Ethereum’s Phase 1 and Phase 2 is expected to occur over the next few years, at some point in time, Ethereum’s infrastructure and state will move to a new proof-of-stake (PoS)-based blockchain.
