How to understand ancient Chinese physiognomy

Physiognomy is the process of observing a person's face and predicting his or her fortune. Physiognomy is an important part of physiognomy and has been valued by physiognomists throughout history.

Fortune telling by physiognomy has existed in China since the Zhou Dynasty (1122 BC). Xunzi, a famous writer, was the high priest of the vassal state of Qi according to the Annotations to the Shiji; during the reign of King Xiang of Qi (283 BC), he refuted physiognomy in his work Xunzi. This philosopher was originally from the State of Zhao. Yang Jing commented on physiognomy in his notes to Xunzi as follows: Physiognomy is to observe the fine details of the bone structure and to infer whether the person will be lucky or unlucky in the future, and whether he will be rich or poor. These theories actually all take advantage of ignorance. Therefore, Xunzi wrote this book to refute this fallacy.

How to predict a person's fortune based on his facial features? In this regard, ancient physiognomists gradually formed their own system based on long-term practice. Generally speaking, regular facial features and a calm expression are the standards of a wealthy and noble appearance, while irregular facial features and a dull complexion are the typical characteristics of a poor and humble appearance.

Regarding a person's facial features, physiognomists have the theory of the Five Mountains, Four Rivers, and Six Internal Organs, which refer to the names of different areas of the face. According to physiognomists, different areas of a person's face have different destinies because of their different features.

In addition, physiognomists also have specific discussions on various parts of the face. In terms of facial features, a clearly defined ear contour is a sign of good fortune, a flat, straight nose is best, and so on.

In short, the face concentrates important information about a person's life and is an important object of observation for physiognomists to predict a person's fortune or misfortune.

The above is all about how to understand the ancient Chinese physiognomy. I hope it will be helpful to everyone. I also hope that everyone will support the Dream Interpreter website.
