Funds raised in Bitcoin fundraiser donated to shelters

SAN FRANCISCO & TBILISI, Georgia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Funds raised in a global Bitcoin fundraiser have been donated to Tbilisi City Hall, Tbilisi Zoo and Tamaz Elizbarashvil Dog Rescue.

In addition to the donations already made by Georgian Co-Investment Fund (“GCF”) and BitFury Group, the two companies have partnered with Georgian Technopark Ltd. to support the cause and set up a dedicated Bitcoin wallet to allow people around the world to donate in Bitcoin.

Thanks to the use of blockchain technology, the entire fundraising process was very transparent. The fundraising campaign received a total of more than 230 donations with a total value of more than $64,000.

BitFury Group has designated its Georgian subsidiary, Georgian Technopark Ltd., to transfer 100,000 Georgian Lari (GEL) to a special account at Tbilisi City Hall to help Tbilisi flood victims, 30,000 GEL to Tbilisi Zoo to support its reconstruction and repair efforts, and 14,370 GEL to Tamaz Elizbarashvil Dog Rescue to assist in its reconstruction efforts.

Valery Vavilov, CEO of BitFury Group, said: "BitFury Group has been active in Georgia since 2014. Our first project, completed in partnership with the Georgian Co-Investment Fund, was very successful and gave us the confidence to expand our operations there. This summer we started our second project in Georgia, where we plan to develop a modern 'Technopark'. We are proud that the Bitcoin community has once again confirmed its generosity by actively participating in our global fundraising campaign with GCF. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated, regardless of the amount."

George Bachiashvili, CEO of Georgia Co-Investment Fund, said: "The floods in Tbilisi have killed many people, left many people homeless, and killed hundreds of animals in the local zoo. The Tamaz Elizbarashvili Dog Rescue Station was destroyed. Tbilisi is still in the recovery stage. We are very grateful to those who donated in this event and helped with the reconstruction."
