As part of the announcement, Gem unveiled its first partner, Philips, which will help build a private ethereum blockchain to develop enterprise healthcare applications.

Micah Winkelspecht

Winkelspecht told CoinDesk:

“We are launching a network where healthcare companies can experiment and build cross-industry applications to solve different use cases. We are helping a lot of companies that have been operating in isolation to create a good environment for collaboration.”

Winkelspecht said Gem is investing in the industry’s communications channels and projects related to physical health.

As for Gem’s role in managing the new private blockchain system, Winkelspecht said the startup does not intend to “own the network” but rather positions itself as a consulting and matching service provider for companies working in the blockchain space.

Winkelspecht, who initially positioned himself as an API provider for bitcoin startups and has since expanded his business to serve enterprises, further elaborated on the benefits that blockchain technology can bring to the healthcare industry, emphasizing the benefits that technological improvements in the industry can have on society.

Winkelspecht said:

“This is a very large and important opportunity. Healthcare affects every one of us, and this opportunity has the potential to transform the entire industry.
