Nextury Ventures, a well-known Lithuanian venture capital firm, will co-host the largest Bitcoin and blockchain conference in the Baltic region on April 8 with the city of Vilnius (the capital of Lithuania). The conference will invite angel investors, venture capital firms, relevant experts, entrepreneurs, start-ups, and Lithuanian officials to discuss the comprehensive ecosystem of Bitcoin and the potential application models of digital currency. Marius Skarupskas, Lithuania’s Deputy Minister of Economy, publicly stated, “Lithuania, and Vilnius in particular, is becoming an international hub for financial innovation. The R&D sector for financial innovation has seen the arrival of important companies such as Barclays and Western Union. We believe that blockchain, cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin are the most cutting-edge and exciting financial innovations. Both Lithuania and Vilnius are investing heavily in these areas in order to achieve important breakthroughs in this field and become leaders in financial innovation on a regional and global scale.” Remigijius Simasius, mayor of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, believes that the purpose of holding this conference is to promote the development of the Bitcoin industry in Lithuania by attracting young financial entrepreneurs and fintech startups, increase the understanding of Bitcoin among entrepreneurs and the underserved groups, and make Vilnius a financial and technological center in Europe. Simasius said, “We are delighted that global companies are increasingly associating Vilnius with financial innovation. We will take further steps to become a regional innovation hub in the field of financial startups, known worldwide as ‘FinTech’. The upcoming Bitcoin and Blockchain Conference in April next year is an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest financial innovations and, with the help of participating professionals, we can revisit the future financial possibilities brought by Bitcoin.”
The Lithuanian government and its Public Technology Center are well aware of the popularity of Bitcoin and blockchain technology among young entrepreneurs and startups. By hosting a Bitcoin-themed event, the City of Vilnius and Nextury Ventures hope to bring funding opportunities to Bitcoin and blockchain financial innovation companies such as Coinbase, attract more international investors and contribute to Lithuania’s economic growth. Nextury Ventures explained, “Bitcoin is popular among young people aged 18-27, and market profits have been captured by young entrepreneurs and start-ups in the Internet finance sector. For example, the start-up Coinbase, which is mainly a trading platform for Bitcoin and virtual currencies, received $25 million in venture capital investment as early as 2013.” Nextury Ventures did not reveal future panelists and advisors, as well as speakers and attendees for the conference. However, Mayor Simasius hinted that heavyweights from the bitcoin industry will be in attendance. |
