Greenpeace Argentina accepts Bitcoin donations

BUENOS AIRES – Greenpeace Argentina will now accept Bitcoin donations. Donors can donate to the peace organization through the BitPagos donation platform. The press release states:

For an international organization like Greenpeace, the possibility of accepting Bitcoin donations adds substantial value to its partners, making the donations immediately effective. ” — Greenpeace Argentina

Greenpeace is an environmental activist organization with independent offices in more than 40 countries around the world. Headquartered in Amsterdam, the non-governmental organization (NGO) has spread to all parts of the world and has more than 3 million members since its establishment in 1970. In September 2014, Greenpeace, which represents a collection of sectors around the world, announced that it would accept Bitcoin donations through BitPay. Starting this week, the Argentine branch will directly accept Bitcoin donations through a non-profit partnership with BitPagos.

The BitPagos platform will focus on payment gateways in South America. Its service supports multiple fiat currencies , Bitcoin and credit card transactions as payment methods. They say: "Bitcoin technology is a safe and simple option for donors," and they admit that more donors are now skipping the traditional banking system to access the platform to make donations. The payment portal not only helps Greenpeace Argentina accept electronic currency donations, but also pays members and activists in Bitcoin. BitPagos' blog states:

“Thanks to a partnership with the BitPagos online donation platform, international environmental organizations now have the option to pay members and activists in Bitcoin.” - BitPagos

Greenpeace Argentina says that until now, they were completely dependent on local banks and expensive credit card services. Before working with BitPagos, about 70% of the inhabitants who did not have bank accounts could not donate to the peace organization. The head of Greenpeace Argentina said: "For an international organization like Greenpeace, the possibility of accepting Bitcoin donations increases the real value of its partners, making the donations immediately effective." This process allows more than 120,000 members of the organization to achieve complete financial independence. Since Greenpeace is an NGO, it has the political freedom to take specific events and devote itself to environmental causes. Accepting decentralized currencies like Bitcoin strengthens the foundation of this NGO.
