Uproov: Blockchain timestamping moves towards professionalization, the beginning of the decline of notary offices

Uproov, a new upcoming smartphone app, will explore the potential of blockchain timestamping to allow anyone to prove virtually anything, without the need for a “trusted party”.

Timestamping is the process by which a blockchain block contains specific information that exists "forever". This concept has been recognized by everyone since the advent of Bitcoin. Of course, in the past few years, there have also been several online timestamping service companies, including: Tangible.io, Proof of Existence, OriginStamp, BitSig and BitProof.

Timestamp replaces notarization function

What can you do with a timestamp system?

Basically, it plays the role of a notary, but this notarization system is more economical and 100% reliable. If a user decides to make a timestamp public, what you can see on the blockchain will be the hash value combined with a specific file. For example, in the Uproov system, these files can be a video, a picture or an audio recording.

Timestamping is more trustworthy than traditional notarization because the document cannot be touched by anyone. The signature is written on the blockchain, and the past part of the blockchain cannot be modified in any way. If the file is modified, the hash value will not match and the manipulation will be detected by the system.

The timestamp function will be another use of blockchain, which may completely change the future of mankind.

There are too many features, and too many risks

So what does this technology allow us to do? It’s easier to understand with examples than with theory:

1. Are you afraid that your work will be stolen, for example, the client does not pay you?

Time stamp: If the client doesn’t pay, it will ruin his reputation.

2. Want to prove that some police actions are brutal?

Record them with a timestamp and make them public.

3. Want to show off your idea before applying for a patent?

Timestamp.

The possibilities for its application are almost endless, although, of course, there are also illegal activities.

Here we also briefly give some examples:

1. Want to prove that your wife is cheating on you?

Time stamp and publish the scandal between her and her lover. Yes, you ruined her life, and you will spend some time in jail.

2. Want to show you what the police next door are doing?

Put a timestamp on it and a SWAT team will come to your house in a few minutes.

By the way, Uproov is pronounced as "you prove", which means you prove it.

You can read more about possible uses on the Uproov website.

The Essential Difference of Uproov

At this point, people may not know the difference between Uproov and other timestamping services.

One is that Uproov is a mobile app, not a web application, and another major difference is that Uproov's solution allows users to upload any file, in fact, it can be a photo, a video, a sound, or a PDF file.

Of course, this means that users can also falsify the content before uploading it.

John Bulich, co-founder of the Uproov project, said Uproov avoids this because after the files are recorded by the device, a hash is created immediately and uploaded, so even if the app also allows users to upload existing files, the tags for those files will be different.

“Photos, videos, audio, there is no time lag in the process of these files being encrypted into the blockchain. The process is completed instantly.”

To take it a step further, Uproov will stamp an Ezy-Id logo on the bottom of the photo so that others can use the Ezy-id to verify the photo on the site.

The green Ezy-ID means it has been processed with Uproov, making it easier for people to view, verify and trust the original photo.

A red Ezy-id means it is a pre-existing photo.

Additionally, users can upload their media files to Uproov’s servers in Switzerland for secure storage, sharing, and verification.

Smartphone apps for iOS and Android

It is reported that users can use Uproov's service for free 20 times. If they want to continue using it, they need to buy a professional version license, or, if a company is using it for its business, the development team can contact them to negotiate the terms of use.

Uproov is a smartphone app: the iOS version is ready and will be released soon, while the Android version is 90% complete and is expected to be available on the Google Play Store in a few weeks.

The developers of Uproov have chosen to accept payments in fiat currency, which is obviously a bit awkward given how the software works. Of course, this is because the Apple Store currently does not allow Bitcoin payments, and the same is true for Google Play.

It is worth mentioning that Uproov’s timestamping application is based on the Bitcoin blockchain, and the team will demonstrate the application live at the Inside Bitcoins conference in San Diego at 15:00 on Tuesday afternoon.
