Bitcoin Segregated Verification Code to be Officially Launched as Early as November, Miners’ Voting Becomes Key

The code for the highly anticipated segregated verification solution from the Bitcoin community is expected to be officially released as early as 11月15日.

It is reported that the new 0.13.1 version of the core software will include more Segregated Verification (SegWit) code, allowing users (and most importantly miners) to start the upgrade process.

The news comes from Bitcoin Core developer Pieter Wuille, who posted new details about the rollout of Segwit this weekend on the Core project’s mailing list.

The code for isolated verification has been tested by core developers for several months. For example, its first version of the code was tested this summer, and the new version of the core software will incorporate the isolated verification code.

However, the November code release does not mean that Bitcoin’s capacity issues will be immediately resolved.

For example, isolated verification can only be implemented when 95% or more of the Bitcoin network's computing power votes in favor of this new change. In addition, even if isolated verification has been voted in by miners, it will take 2016 new blocks to be truly implemented.

Additionally, the release of a new version of the SegWit code could spark further debate in the Bitcoin community about network scalability, as recent tensions have slowed progress on SegWit.

Other versions of Bitcoin software, including Bitcoin Unlimited and Bitcoin Classic, have proposed alternative solutions. The biggest difference from core is that both advocate on-chain expansion, increasing the block size of Bitcoin to expand the Bitcoin network.
