Shanghai Blockchain Hackathon Competition to be held in January 2016

It is reported that Wanxiang Blockchain Lab and Deloitte will hold a global blockchain hackathon relay in Shanghai in January next year.

According to the announcement of this event, participants will be divided into several groups to brainstorm innovative applications of blockchain within two days and complete the design and development of the demo version. Blockchain technology experts such as the Ethereum development team, Deloitte Rubix team, and Wanxiang Blockchain Lab technical team will provide technical guidance to participants throughout the process. After completing the development, each group will show the prototype version developed by the group to everyone and have the opportunity to receive a generous bonus of up to US$100,000 provided by the organizing committee.

Blockchain technology has set off a huge research boom around the world. On November 30, Xiao Feng, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of China Wanxiang Holdings Co., Ltd. and initiator of Wanxiang Blockchain Lab, said at the Internet Financier Salon series of activities jointly initiated by students of the Internet Finance Advanced Training Course of Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance,

“I think the ultimate goal of Internet finance is peer-to-peer, end-to-end, P2P financial services. Anything that requires the help of an intermediary, or a service that the existing financial system can already provide well, is not the ultimate Internet finance. … It (blockchain) is a new technology that will bring about huge changes in the infrastructure of the financial industry. If the basic things change, the things in the financial application layer will inevitably change, so this may be disruptive in five years.

WanXiang Blockchain Labs, founded in 2015, is a non-profit cutting-edge research institution focusing on blockchain technology. The lab brings together experts in the field to conduct research and discussion on technology development, commercial applications, industrial strategy, etc., to provide guidance for entrepreneurs, reference for industry development and policy formulation, and to promote the development of blockchain technology in serving the progress of social economy.

Hackathon (also translated as hacker pine), also known as hacker day, hacker festival or programming festival, is a new word circulated among hackers. A programming marathon is an activity. In this activity, computer programmers and other personnel related to software development, such as graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, come together to work closely on a software project. The soul of a programming marathon is to write programs and applications in collaboration. The duration of a hackathon generally ranges from a few days to a week. A hackathon is not as simple as writing some one-time works.
