Former Microsoft employee arrested, accused of stealing $10 million worth of digital currency

A former employee of Microsoft Corporation was arrested on the 16th on suspicion of stealing electronic currency from Microsoft's online retail platform, involving a sum of US$10 million (approximately RMB 68.8 million).
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle said the suspect is Vladimir Kvaschuk, 25, a Ukrainian citizen who helped test Microsoft's online retail platform. Prosecutors said Kvaschuk took advantage of his job to steal gift cards and other electronic currencies that could be exchanged for Microsoft products, and then resold them on the Internet platform. He used the proceeds to buy a Tesla electric car and a lakeside house, which cost $160,000 and $1.7 million respectively. Kvaschuk continued to steal for seven months, during which time a total of $2.8 million was transferred into his bank account. After his crime was exposed, Kvaschuk was fired in June 2018.
