Collins joined Coinbase in October 2014 as an internal liaison for Coinbase, responsible for communicating with U.S. policymakers. At the time, Coinbase said they invited Collins to join in order to better understand the attitudes and trends of U.S. congressmen towards Bitcoin technology. In an email obtained by CoinDesk, Collins said that after his departure, he would join BAFT, the international subsidiary of the American Bankers Association, as vice president of international policy. Collins said:
Prior to joining Coinbase, Collins served as a senior counsel to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which held hearings on digital currencies. Coinbase did not immediately respond to CoinDesk’s request for comment when contacted by CoinDesk regarding whether the position will be filled by someone else in the future.
