Bitcoin company Blockstream and PwC form strategic partnership

On January 29, Blockstream, the company at the center of the Bitcoin expansion dispute, announced today that it has reached a strategic partnership with accounting giant PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). According to a press release on Blockstream’s official website, this cooperation aims to provide blockchain technology and services to companies around the world.

Rapid innovation in cryptocurrencies, distributed ledgers, and smart contracts is rapidly driving companies to transform the way they do business.

According to Blockstream, the company will provide enterprises with the most mature, proven and secure blockchain technology, extending the Bitcoin protocol through interoperable sidechains to support new applications, while PwC brings deep industry experience, extensive business services and cutting-edge customer insights. In short, PwC and Blockstream will help enterprises evaluate cryptocurrency and blockchain technology and launch new applications for the Bitcoin protocol.

“For our clients, we help them understand the new world of Bitcoin and blockchain technology, which is applicable to countless applications and can optimize financial security, efficiency and compliance,” said Haskell S. Garfinkel, co-leader of PwC’s FinTech division. “PwC is joining forces with Blockstream to offer our combined knowledge and capabilities to clients, providing them with the best of both organizations’ expertise, talent and assets.”

“As we wrote a few months ago, blockchain technology has the potential to revolutionize multiple industries,” said Dean Nicolacakis, co-leader of PwC’s fintech practice. “As we head into 2016, we will be working with Blockstream to bring our combined expertise, thought leadership, training and more to the market.”

PwC has reportedly begun introducing Blockstream’s technology to companies in the United States, Europe and Asia that are exploring financial and non-financial applications of blockchain.
