Technology company Microsoft was forced to apologize on Monday after it unexpectedly announced it would no longer accept Bitcoin, CNBC reported. Earlier this week, the software giant mistakenly stated that it had stopped accepting Bitcoin payments, however, contrary to the statement, Microsoft users are still able to use Bitcoin to purchase content in the Windows and Xbox stores. "We apologize for the inaccurate information that was inadvertently posted on Microsoft sites," a Microsoft spokesperson told reporters. Previously, an announcement appeared on Microsoft's website stating that it would no longer accept users to use Bitcoin to consume Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile products. However, now the announcement has been deleted .
In December 2014, Microsoft began accepting Bitcoin for purchases of Windows 10 in its stores from users in the United States. These transactions were conducted through the Bitcoin payment processor BitPay. BitPay said it saw a 110 percent increase in bitcoin transaction volume in 2015 compared to the same period last year. BitPay did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment. Original text: http://www.cnbc.com/2016/03/14/microsoft-stops-accepting-bitcoin-on-windows-10.html |
