Microsoft apologizes: We still accept Bitcoin

According to a news report from CNBC, Microsoft Technology Company mistakenly published an erroneous post early Monday saying that it would no longer accept Bitcoin, and then Microsoft publicly apologized.

The erroneous post stated that users could no longer redeem bitcoins from their Microsoft accounts, and that existing bitcoins in their accounts could be used to shop at Microsoft stores, but could not be returned. The technology website Softpedia forwarded the message at the time, which immediately caused an uproar in the technology blog community.

As early as December 2014, Microsoft began accepting Bitcoin for purchasing Windows 10 Store products across the United States, with transactions conducted through Bitcoin processing platform BitPay.

Today, Bitcoin has received widespread attention and recognition, and more and more people are beginning to understand and use Bitcoin. Merchants accepting Bitcoin payments will undoubtedly attract more customers. According to a post published by BitPay in January this year, the volume of Bitcoin transactions handled by BitPay in 2015 increased by 110% compared to the previous year.

At present, this post published on Microsoft's official website has been deleted. Although the post stated that Windows 10 and Windows 10 mobile users will no longer be allowed to use Bitcoin to purchase products, at the time of publishing this post, Microsoft users can still use Bitcoin, a virtual currency, to purchase products in Windows and Xbox stores. It can be seen that Microsoft has no intention of canceling Bitcoin payments, and the post was purely a mistake.

BitPay also immediately responded to CNBC’s request for comment after the incident.
