Disney has launched an ad for interns to work on its private blockchain. Companies in all industries, not just the financial services industry, are looking at blockchain these days, and it seems like everyone loves it! Trustlessness in SeattleThis internship is to assist DTSS (Disney Technology Solutions and Services’ business unit) in Disney’s private blockchain research efforts. The project involved designing and implementing access control mechanisms for The Walt Disney Company, ABC, ESPN, Disney Interactive, and Walt Disney Studios using open ledger and blockchain architectures. However, for those who thought this might be the dream job at the happiest place on earth, please note that the job opening was for Seattle, not Disneyland. Today, the post has been removed from the Disney job site, suggesting that the position may have been filled. Disney's new appWhile this particular role was to implement an access control solution within the specific company of Disney, blockchain applications can also be found within the context of theme parks. Currently Disney has a magic wristband that uses a radio transmitter to let employees know the customer's name within 40 feet. By using blockchain technology, all customer data and payments/tokens can flow safely and smoothly throughout the system. Disney has always been at the forefront of technology in its theme parks, so it would not be surprising if a blockchain-based solution was implemented at Disneyland. Blockchain WeddingThis is not the first time Disney has combined with blockchain. Back in 2014, the first blockchain wedding took place at Disneyland in Florida. David Mondrus and Joyce Bayo recorded their wedding vows on the blockchain, omitting the roles of religious and government officials. This start of the Disney Blockchain Internship shows that banks and financial institutions are no longer the only industries embracing blockchain solutions. Blockchain can be applied to any industry where records need to be securely maintained and processed, whether they are land records, medical records, or shipping records. We expect companies in other industries to follow Disney’s lead and begin embracing blockchain solutions in the near future.
