The Bitcoin-based OpenBazaar marketplace has been around for a while now, and there are already a lot of items for sale. I've looked at some of the interesting items on it. They're inexpensive and perfect for a first shopping experience. You may have heard of the OpenBazaar marketplace, which is based on a p2p principle, has no fees and no regulations, and uses Bitcoin as its payment method. Sounds cool, right? But it's like this underground market where drug lords trade with hackers and murderers, or, in your mind, OpenBazaar is all about tech gadgets for guys with beards and living in basements. What can I buy there? In fact, the products sold on the OpenBazaar market are just some marijuana seeds and cactus balls. Most of the products on it can also be purchased in supermarkets, but there, payment is made with the ever-inflating legal currency. Moreover, you have to pay various taxes when shopping in a supermarket. Who wants to pay taxes? In the OpenBazaar market, in addition to buying some cooking ingredients, T-shirts and bicycle parts, you may also find some treasures that you can't find anywhere else. Some of the products I listed may be ones you use frequently, and some you may not have even heard of. To give new users a taste of OpenBazaar, I only list items that cost less than 0.02 BTC ($10). 1. Delicious caramel waffles For a global p2p market, the best thing is to taste the delicious food made in a kitchen in another corner of the world. Traditional Dutch caramel waffles can be shipped to Europe and North America, provided by Sweet Express, a merchant from Croatia. This product is freshly made and guaranteed to be fresh. You can pay 0.0078 BTC (about 3 US dollars) to buy 10 pieces without shipping. 2. Stay one night in Taiwan Less than a day after OpenBazaar went live, the home rental service was launched. For a tourist, what could be better than renting a safe small unit (with kitchen and bathroom) to sleep in for a night in the center of Kaohsiung, Taiwan for only 0.0231 (10 US dollars). According to the rental company, each small unit includes a bed with a window, power sockets, USB chargers, LED lights and hangers. The most interesting thing is that living in a Bitcoin cabin feels beautiful. 3. Super red pepper seeds If you like to grow some flowers and plants, then you must check out OpenBazaar. In the early days of an online trading market, OpenBazaar offers a surprisingly large variety of plant and flower seeds. The pepper in the picture above is called "Soul-breaking Pepper" and is provided by a Dutch merchant Tygg's Seedery. The seeds of this pepper are sold in a pack of 10 for 0.0078 BTC (about $3). This pepper is one of the hottest in the world and the merchant also told us that this pepper has a "papaya flavor." 4. Handmade lipstick Another category with a lot of products in OpenBazaar is personal care products. Most of them are natural or handmade. For example, this lip balm, from American merchant Virus Media, is rich in beeswax, coconut milk and other oils, and comes in three flavors: sweet orange, lemon and mint. Priced at 0.0116 BTC ($5), this lip balm is easy on the eyes and affordable, making it a great product to try out on OpenBazaar. 5. Beautiful skirt This super cute dress is priced at 0.0179 BTC (about $8) and comes from Vintage Fashion, a US merchant that also sells other vintage dresses. 6. Vintage greeting cards from virtual characters This is probably the weirdest item I've ever bought on OpenBazaar. Mrs Macadam's Curiosities is a merchant that specializes in "mystery boxes," and their coolest item is about a fictional Victorian character called Irma May Willikins. For just 0.0069 BTC ($3), Irma will send you a personalized vintage greeting card. After shopping at this store, you will be thinking about the stories that come with your purchases. 7. Angel Wings Silicone Mold This is a cake jigsaw, and there is also a cake supply store on OpenBazaar. Is this getting more and more like shopping in a mall, but in a mall you can't be naked and pay with Bitcoin. It's basically like shopping at the mall, but 10,000 times better. This mold costs 0.02 BTC (about $9) and is provided by US merchant Cake Supply World. 8. Patch in the zombie apocalypse Preparing for a disaster is hard because you have to buy something that will save other people from a zombie apocalypse/nuclear winter/supervolcano eruption/civil unrest/hyperinflation… but you can’t let anyone see it because they might steal it or report it to the government. Frustrating. Well, this is one you can be proud to show off to others. It only costs 0.01 BTC ($5). You can buy it from the US merchant shinybadges.com. 9. Citrus Mint Beard Oil This beard oil has been very popular in the Western market in the past two years. It is specially prepared for those with beards and is sold in supermarkets, clothing stores, and auto parts stores. OpenBazaar didn't have many beard products on the market for a while, but soon after, Swedish merchant Hidden Road launched this all-natural citrus mint beard oil. Men and bearded women can laugh online, and so can you. This luxurious beard oil will keep your facial hair neat, shiny, and smelling great. It costs 0.02 BTC ($10) for a 1-ounce bottle. 10. OpenBazaar badge Your first international decentralized marketplace journey wouldn’t be complete without an OpenBazaar badge. The two-pin badge costs 0.0208 BTC ($9) and is a way to support the OpenBazaar project and the developers behind it. What are you waiting for? If you don't have access to OpenBazaar yet, you can download it here (openbazaar.org). Once downloaded, you can install it, which is a very easy process. Once installed, you can browse all the items for sale on it, or you can create your own store to sell your own items. |
