427 million MySpace data leaked, sold for 6 bitcoins

Following the recent leak of 117 million LinkedIn login credentials, today the paid hacker data retrieval engine LeakedSource revealed that 427 million MySpace user credentials were leaked, which, if confirmed, would be the largest data leak in MySpace history. The data released today covers 360,213,024 users, including user names, email addresses and passwords.

Like LinkedIn, these data are not completely consistent. According to LeakedSource analysis, 427,484,128 user passwords were found, but not all of them matched the accounts. Some accounts also had secondary passwords, and some accounts only had secondary passwords but no primary passwords. Some database entries only had passwords.

The company said the passwords were encrypted with SHA1, but they were not salted, so LeakedSource analysts were able to decrypt most of them. The company said it obtained the data from anonymous users on Jabber and sold it on the dark web for 6 bitcoins.
