Ethereum Developer Releases White Hat Hacking Attack

Members of the Ethereum developer community reportedly used DAO funds to respond to the new attack.

Alex Van de Sande, a developer at the Ethereum Foundation, announced the news on Twitter shortly after social media reported that DAO-related contracts had lost more funds. He said this was in response to speculation on the DAO smart contract code, which had lost $1 million in ether in the past few days.

As of June 21, Ethereum developers have collected more than 4 million ethers, worth about $48 million, using new addresses.

However, DAO funds were also sent to this address, it’s just not clear if it was related to the attack mentioned in the message or the response from Ethereum developers.

As of the 21st, another new address had collected a total of $820,000 in DAO funds.

The move to clear the DAO’s funds comes as members of the ethereum community fiercely debate whether the network should be forked to combat last week’s hack.
