Blockchain competition is emerging: two technical routes have become the mainstream of development

Recently, a blockchain whirlwind has swept the financial circle.

On June 28 , a meeting with Brian Behlendorf , executive director of the Hyperledger Project, hosted by Onchain was held at the Tsinghua Unigroup International Exchange Center in Beijing. Domestic blockchain experts discussed the future development trend of blockchain. Brian said that blockchain technology is still immature and is in a stage where many heroes emerge. It will take a long time to see who will dominate the world.

However, due to the characteristics of blockchain such as decentralization (or multi-centralization), high transparency, immutability, and no single point of failure, people in the industry say that in the next ten years, blockchain technology will bring about earth-shaking changes to the entire world.

China Times learned from the meeting that the Hyperledger Project started in December 2015 with the goal of establishing a transparent, shared, decentralized distributed ledger technology. In May this year , Onchain, a Chinese blockchain startup, announced that it had officially joined the Hyperledger project. Onchain is a Chinese blockchain technology company that developed China's first blockchain project, Antminer.

At present, in the field of blockchain, two business models have been formed: public chain and consortium chain / private chain. These two business models have also derived two technical routes : one is the public chain direction represented by Bitcoin and Ethereum, and the other is the consortium chain / private chain direction represented by Hyperledger.

Currently, blockchain is still in a very early stage, but some common frameworks have emerged in many sub-sectors. At this stage, what kind of standards does blockchain need to foresee future changes?

Brian shared what kind of healthy open source community Hyperledger hopes to build and how to achieve it, and discussed how a healthy open source community grows. In his opinion, blockchain technology is still immature and is in a stage where many heroes emerge. It will take a long time to see who will dominate the world.

Shao Ling, deputy director of IBM China Research Institute, said that it is too early to talk about standards. Blockchain technology is now in a stage of rapid evolution. We need to be open-minded and let various technologies continue to develop and mature before discussing the issue of standards. It is inappropriate to discuss the issue of "standards" when the technology is immature.

Onchain CEO Da Hongfei said that we need a "testing standard". "Nowadays, many companies claim to be blockchains, distributed ledgers, etc., but what is the real mechanism behind blockchain, how is its scalability, and whether there are various vulnerabilities in the code all require a testing standard." Da Hongfei said, "I hope that in the process of blockchain development, we can not only contribute technology and code, but also provide useful help and ideas in forming testing standards."

Although the guests all believe that blockchain technology is still immature, the platform must continue to move forward, and to move forward, a good strategy must be formulated. What kind of strategy can truly adapt to the development of blockchain?

Shao Ling, deputy director of IBM China Research Institute, said that in fact, blockchain has different levels. A successful open source project must not only have good technology, but also have an ecosystem . Only through an open open source community can it gain market recognition.

Du Yu, the head of Wanxiang Blockchain Lab, believes that we still need to develop blockchain from the perspective of the community. At the current stage when the technology is immature, it is recommended that everyone work together to gradually promote the maturity of the technology. In addition, the most important thing is to be business-oriented and force the development of technology.
