The century-old question: Should the Ethereum Foundation sell its ETC?

The emergence of Ethereum Classic has slightly suppressed the price of Ether. At the same time, this phenomenon has also brought some practical problems to these two cryptocurrencies. The Ethereum Foundation holds a large amount of ETH, which means that it also owns a large amount of ETC. So should it sell its ETC?

Diversification is very important for everyone. Putting all your eggs in one basket will lead to losses. This investment principle applies to any cryptocurrency foundation. However, in order to maximize their own interests, they must ensure the liquidity of the tokens they manage.

This puts the Ethereum Foundation in an interesting position. Since a large amount of their funds existed before the fork, they would have the same amount of ETC in their accounts after the fork. They just kept their Ether and did nothing, and then these ETC appeared "out of thin air".

If they want to create additional value for their ether, they can choose to sell ETC and convert all ETC into ether. This approach is understandable, but it is completely unnecessary for the Ethereum Foundation and may even lose money. After all, ETC is becoming more and more popular and its price is also rising.

In addition, if the Ethereum Foundation really sold its ETC, it would only give people something to talk about. Although there is no direct evidence, the outside world is likely to make a big fuss about it and accuse them of false market making. Moreover, not selling ETC means that the Ethereum Foundation is very supportive of both chains, which will make people feel that they are serious and responsible for the long-term development of Ethereum.

The Ethereum Foundation is standing at a "crossroads of life" and they will definitely make a decision after careful consideration. In fact, no matter which path they choose in the end (selling or not selling), it will not be a smooth and comfortable road. In any case, Ethereum and the Foundation will be affected to varying degrees. However, don't forget that the development costs of Ethereum developers come from fundraising. If they continue to delay, the loss of funds will only get faster and faster. According to the original plan, the current funds of the Foundation should last for half a year or longer.
