iPhone 7 Enables Bitcoin Payments, Ethereum Classic May Be Next

Just days after Apple gave Jaxx CEO Anthony Di Iorio direct instructions to remove Dash from its iOS app, the creator of the universal blockchain wallet has announced the integration of Ethereum Classic (ETC) into its software wallets for seven different platforms.

The announcement comes as Apple unveiled the iPhone 7 at its September event, where third-party apps supporting iMessage will include Circle, a peer-to-peer payment technology company that uses bitcoin and traditional fiat currencies.

Circle Integration

Circle uses bitcoin as a form of payment. That has the potential to increase the speed of money transfers in certain parts of the world, including its most recent market, China, which counts Apple’s messaging system as a carrier.

CEO Jeremy Allaire said Circle's iMessage payments reduce "friction" for consumers.

He added:

"You have to have an app installed on your smartphone to transfer money to your friends. With the iMessage app, everything is much easier."

While Apple has yet to reveal whether it will support ETC, the continuation chain of the original Ethereum, Jaxx said it has submitted an updated version of the app to the iOS App Store and hopes to receive approval in the coming days.

Di Iorio noted in a press release that Jaxx will be forced to remove the Dash from the iOS version of the wallet on September 14, 2016. Since the hard fork version of Ethereum has already been approved by Apple, they hope that “Apple will be willing to add Ethereum Classic, especially given its broad developer support and growing popularity.”

Last week, Apple issued a directive confirming support for six tokens: Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, DAO and Ripple.

The integration will make ETC the sixth most valuable blockchain token with an estimated market cap of $124 million and available on nine platforms supported by Jaxx with approval from the iOS Apple Marketplace.

Ethereum Classic could be next

If Apple doesn’t allow Ethereum Classic to run on its iOS products, it won’t be able to form a platform, but it will still exist on Jaxx’s seven other platforms. Di lorio said Apple now sees the market demand for other tokens, and Jaxx hopes to clarify to iPhone and iPad users how to best integrate these currencies.

Regardless of whether ETC will still have value, but the stolen funds from the DAO were indeed moved, Di Lorio said that Jaxx does not speculate on the price or value of certain currencies, but simply provides consumers with choices and options that are buoyant.

He said:

“Ethereum Classic was easy to integrate. It is currently the sixth most valuable cryptocurrency in the country, and our users can now easily access their ETC on Jaxx, and split or sell them through our Shapeshift integration.”

Jaxx and the Dash

Jaxx is removing the Dash from its iOS product, but it won’t affect users of its seven other platforms. The Dash will still be available for users of Android phones and tablets, Mac OS X, Windows PC interfaces, and Google Chrome and Firefox extensions.

Di Lorio added:

After integrating Dash last month, ETC and Jaxx now fully support five tokens, Bitcoin, Ethereum and DAO. The report shows that Jaxx has been downloaded by 40,000 new users since its launch in June 2016.
