Wirex successfully integrates Shapeshift’s API, allowing dozens of alternative coins to use Wirex debit card services

Wirex’s Bitcoin debit card has been well received since its launch. Today, users can top up their debit cards with all popular cryptocurrencies. Wirex has announced that it has integrated Shapeshift, which will allow users to use dozens of alternative coins supported by the exchange. Shapeshift also announced the news via a blog post.

Wirex offers both virtual and physical Visa and MasterCard debit cards. Customers can use their physical cards almost everywhere, including withdrawing cash from ATMs. Although Visa and MasterCard charge fees, they are much lower than the high fees charged by traditional Bitcoin ATMs. Wirex positions itself as a complete alternative banking solution. They allow users to hold both cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies with them at the same time, filling many of the roles of a general bank.

Shapeshift is an exchange that allows users to convert between various cryptocurrencies in near real time. Users do not need to register with Shapeshift, they can deposit one cryptocurrency in Shapeshift and then receive another currency at an address of their choice.

The integration will enable Wirex debit cards to be topped up with all cryptocurrencies supported by Shapeshift, including Litecoin, Voxels, Ethereum, and thirty other cryptocurrencies.

Today, holders of these cryptocurrencies can say they have a debit card that can be topped up with any cryptocurrency of their choice.

In recent months, more and more services are taking advantage of Shapeshift’s API. Wirex’s integration is just one of them. Recently, mobile Ethereum and Bitcoin wallet Jaxx, hardware wallet KeepKey, and cryptocurrency data tracker CoinCap.io have all integrated Shapeshift.

Shapeshift has proven to be one of the most valuable services for altcoin holders. The Wirex integration is perhaps the most significant achievement to date.
