ABN AMRO cooperates with local universities on blockchain project

Rage Review : ABN Amro is a state-owned bank and one of the largest banks in the Netherlands. It is also a member of the blockchain Hyperledger project, an investor in blockchain startup Digital Asset Holdings, and a developer of blockchain technology applications. Recently, the bank announced a partnership with Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands to integrate experimental resources, jointly explore the prospects of blockchain and develop a series of applications. The university provides technical courses for the bank, so it is from a scientific perspective and has a solid theoretical foundation.

A prominent Dutch banking institution is working with a local university to develop a series of blockchain prototypes.

ABN Amro, a member of the Linux Foundation-led Hyperledger project and an investor in blockchain startup Digital Asset Holdings, recently announced a collaboration with Delft University of Technology in the south of the Netherlands to develop blockchain applications using the university’s experimental facilities.

The goal is to build a system that can "reliably and accurately handle large amounts of data and users" and develop applications within the next six months. ABN Amro employees will also participate in university seminars to explain blockchain technology to bank employees.

Arjan van Os, head of innovation at the bank, said:

“It is a pleasure to work with such a professional institution as Delft. It gives us the opportunity to better understand how blockchain technology can be applied. We approach the research from a scientific perspective, which makes it very attractive.”

The blockchain project jointly undertaken by the two institutions will be open source.
