Lightning Network lands on Litecoin? Bitcoin company ACINQ claims to have successfully completed the test

ACINQ, a Paris-based startup working on Bitcoin solutions, has successfully tested its Lightning Network (LN) software on the Litecoin (LTC) network.

Litecoin activates Segregated Witness

As the possibility of Segregated Witness (SegWit) being deployed in Litecoin becomes more and more likely, more and more people are beginning to see Litecoin as a test bed for Bitcoin.

Segregated Witness fixes the transaction malleability issue while facilitating the deployment of the Lightning Network, which enables instant payments between multiple users through smart contracts.

ACINQ is a Paris-based startup that has implemented the Lightning Network in the general-purpose programming language Scala. Their solution is called Éclair , which is the French translation of Lightning Network.

On April 25, the company announced that they had successfully tested Éclair on the Litecoin network.

Although Éclair was developed specifically for Bitcoin, the company found that its solution is also applicable to the Litecoin network, with only appropriate parameter adjustments.

After this testing, the company concluded:

The first LN payment containing actual value is likely to appear on the Litecoin network.

Exchange of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies

One of the most interesting features of the Lightning Network is the trustless cross-chain instant swap. In simple terms, it uses the Lightning Network to achieve the swap between different cryptocurrencies.

For example, with this feature, users can exchange Bitcoin for Litecoin as they wish. In the future, this cross-chain swap feature can make transactions between Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies more convenient.

In addition, Éclair is not the only technical deployment plan. There are at least five other projects planning to deploy after the activation of Segregated Witness.

Since Segregated Witness was put on the Litecoin agenda in March, the price of this cryptocurrency has recently created a new high, rising from $4 to more than $15. After the deployment of Segregated Witness on the Litecoin network, it will also open the door to other technologies such as the Lightning Network.
