SegWit2x signal support rate exceeds 80% activation threshold, code Beta version released at the end of June

With the signal support from BTCC and BATPOOL mining pools, the computing power support for the SegWit2x scaling solution has officially exceeded the required 80% computing power threshold.

Although the computing power supporting SegWit2x was only 71% the day before yesterday, this number finally exceeded the most important indicator for the effectiveness of SegWit2x yesterday.

Although it has received a lot of doubts and criticism like other expansion solutions, the computing power support currently obtained by SegWit2x is sufficient to ensure that SegWit can be implemented on the Bitcoin network.

However, the Bitcoin community seemed to have received great relief that SegWit2x had reached the activation threshold.

Charlie Shrem, Bitcoin pioneer and founder of the Bitcoin Foundation, said:

We're getting SegWit #Bitcoin

Barry Silbert, CEO of Digital Currency Group and promoter of the New York Agreement, said:

Ding! Ding! Ding! With BTCC and BATPOOL now signaling support for SegWit2x, the 80% hashrate threshold has been reached.

The SegWit2x code is still in the alpha testing phase and a beta version will be released at the end of June.

Currently, some large Bitcoin mining pools have signaled support for SegWit2x, including Ant Pool, BitFury and F2Pool.

Pro-BU mining pools Bitcoin.com and ViaBTC also joined the support team.

Meanwhile, in a blog post explaining SegWit2x on Monday, bitcoin developer Jimmy Song noted that implementation of the SegWit2x code “is actually a much trickier problem than it appears.”

He wrote:

“If you want to avoid a permanent split in Bitcoin, 80% support is a positive development because it makes it look like the Bitcoin blockchain will not split.”

“But the scaling war is not over. The larger and more contentious 2MB hard fork remains unresolved.”
