Can Bitcoin buy citizenship?

According to local newspaper Vila Times, Samuel Garae, acting secretary general of the Vanuatu Citizenship Office, said the office “has not made any legal confirmation regarding the alleged Bitcoin payments reported in the media.”

“The Citizenship Office assures all Citizens Agents that all payments related to the DSP program will continue to be made in U.S. dollars as provided for in the Citizenship Regulations,” he said.

Vanuatu is a member of the Commonwealth and passport holders can enjoy visa-free access to 113 countries, including the United Kingdom, Russia and EU member states.

Vanuatu is one of the easiest countries to immigrate to in the world. After the naturalization application passes the review process of the review committee, it can be submitted to the naturalization committee for approval to become a citizen of the country. It only takes half a month to one month from submitting the application to becoming a formal citizen and obtaining a passport. The whole process only costs 200,000 US dollars. In addition, applicants are not required to live in Vanuatu, and even those who have never been to this country can apply.
