Can you really make money lying down? See how these Dutch researchers use human body heat to mine

Mining with body heat

Manuel Beltrán, founder of IoHO, said that it is wrong to say that technology cannot be sustained by current resources, because he believes that one source of energy - the human body - is virtually inexhaustible. The organization has conducted several experiments aimed at studying and developing "biological labor", and the current project is related to cryptocurrency mining. The experiment has lasted for 212 hours and has reached 37 participants.

Using the specially designed bodysuit, the participants generated 127.2 watts of energy during this time and mined 16,590 cryptocurrencies , including Vertcoin, Dash, Ethereum, Litecoin, Startcoin and Lisk. The researchers said that humans can generate 100 watts of energy at rest, and in most cases, 80% of the energy is wasted.

The human body generates 100 watts of excess heat while sleeping - our bodysuit uses a thermoelectric generator to harvest the temperature difference between the body and the surrounding environment and convert it into usable electricity.

The electricity thus generated will be used to run a computer capable of cryptocurrency mining.

Data generation work

IoHO believes that data generation is promising and can generate funds by exploring the human body to its full potential. When mining cryptocurrency, participants only need to lie down and do nothing else. The tights do all the work, maintaining the body temperature to generate data for cryptocurrency mining.

Companies like Google and Facebook are already using the data resources generated by the human body, and they are making a lot of money from it.

Beltrán revealed that their team did not choose to mine Bitcoin because it is very difficult to mine Bitcoin using human body heat. Theoretically, it would take 4,500 people wearing IoHO's special suits and lying still for a day and a night to mine one Bitcoin. Therefore, IoHO chose a more convenient coin to mine, which can also bring them more benefits.
