Well-known Bitcoin engineer Jameson Lopp was poached by cryptocurrency wallet service provider Casa

Casa Wallet’s service includes some additional steps designed to thwart attacks, including physical threats. On the other hand, the company’s sudden emergence coincides with the sudden departure of Jameson Lopp from Bitgo. The bitcoin developer was considered one of the industry’s knowledgeable leaders, but it was publicly known that he did not see eye to eye with Bitgo CEO Mike Belshe, the advocate of the Segwit 2x fork that was disrupted last November.

However, Lopp's reason for changing employers may be more prosaic: he may be seeking a new, more lucrative challenge, and he found it in Casa. Last summer, Jeremy Welch raised $2.1 million in funding from venture capital firms to start the company. Casa has developed a premium HLOD, which is currently basically just a fancy price tag with more verification steps. However, there is no doubt that the market for security for wealthy people with more cryptocurrency assets is an emerging market, so Casa's launch is timely. The company's offering will compete with similar products from Coinbase Custody, which also has a high annual maintenance fee.

According to reports, a few customers have already signed up for Casa, while about 100 are still on the waiting list. The biggest challenge facing the company is its convenience. The biggest asset owned by the super-rich is arguably not money, but the luxury of time that money brings. These people are already accustomed to paying others to do chores and setting up multiple multi-signature wallets in multiple locations. Given the relevant technology, high-net-worth individuals may prefer to hand over such responsibilities to a fully insured third party, such as Coinbase.
