Miners in Chelan County, Washington, protest proposed electricity rate hike

According to public utility district (PUD) officials, they hope to increase the electricity cost of local Bitcoin mining by 7 to 10 cents per kilowatt-hour.

According to a report from iFiberone, miners in the region came together on Monday to protest against an upcoming increase in electricity prices, claiming it could put them out of business. One of the miners, Nick Martini, pointed out that the proposed increase would make mining electricity in Washington more expensive than in California, which currently has the highest electricity prices.

PUD Manager Steve Wright noted that the price increase is a bit exaggerated, adding that the commission and staff will be taking a closer look at the energy needs of local cryptocurrency miners.
