After all, he is the cryptocurrency tycoon Xu Mingxing. Without a suit and tie, without the spotlights on the stage, and without the followers following him, he sat in the police station and was asked by the police: "What is your education?" He replied: "Bachelor's degree."

It really couldn't be more down to earth.

A few hours before this, Xu Mingxing was planning to spend a comfortable night in a five-star hotel, but the news leaked out and he was blocked at the hotel entrance by rights activists.

He stayed at the Hongta Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Shanghai, less than 4 kilometers away from the landmark Oriental Pearl Tower.

However, at around 5 pm on September 10, he was forced to leave the five-star hotel and came to the Weifang Xincun Police Station of the Shanghai Pudong Branch.

The two are very close, only 870 meters on foot or 2 minutes by car.

Different parties have different opinions on who called the police first.

In the video, Xu Mingxing told the police: "I was surrounded by 7 or 8 people, threatening my personal safety." The police replied: "They did not commit a criminal offense. If you have any problems, you can file a civil lawsuit."

After watching the video, most people believed that Xu was threatened and called the police first.

An anonymous rights activist broke the news to "31 Degrees North" that after they discovered the hotel room where Xu Mingxing was staying, they were afraid that he would escape, so they took the initiative to call the police and showed proof to "31 Degrees North" .

01. How did you discover Xu Mingxing?

On the afternoon of September 10, a piece of news came out about the OK Group: three days after opening, the OK Group’s Shanghai office was deserted.

This news came from the rights defenders who blocked the door of Xu Mingxing's five-star hotel. They wanted to find the newly opened Shanghai office to defend their rights, but found that they were empty-handed. The company label had been torn off, and the property management refused to admit that it was OK Group.

The whistleblower told "North Latitude 31 Degrees" that "the girl is young and beautiful, with a very good figure, and is here to apply for Xu Mingxing's personal fitness trainer."

Knowing that the woman was not interviewing here, they decided to follow her and came to the five-star hotel where Xu Mingxing was staying. They found the room where Xu Mingxing was and successfully found Xu Mingxing.

According to the query of "31 Degrees North Latitude" , the hotel's Ctrip page shows that it provides fitness room.

Xu Mingxing replied: "I prefer mountains and rivers. If I can lose weight and exercise, I might go climb Mount Everest. After I have established a good system for the company, I might try it."

Xu Mingxing, who originally wanted to lose weight and exercise in the gym, was blocked by the rights defenders. In addition to various accusations, he was kept at the police station, waiting for the arrival of investigators from the Economic Investigation Office the next day.

Despite staying at the police station, Xu Mingxing was not restricted from using his mobile phone.

At 10:55 p.m., he posted a microblog with only a few words: "Rumors stop with the wise!"

The rights defender reconstructed the scene to 31 North Latitude: "He was right next to us, posting with his phone. We were all cursing at him, saying 'Do you still have any shame?'"

"Did he say anything to you from the beginning to the end?" The answer received by 31 Degrees North was, "Xu Mingxing only emphasized one sentence: I won't pay a penny!"

02. Why is OKEx subject to rights protection?

At around 6 pm on September 5, the price of Bitcoin continued to plummet. Contract users of the OKEx trading platform found that the trading platform's APP frequently crashed and could not log in. Whether they wanted to stop loss or cover their positions, they were unable to do so and could only suffer a margin call.

OKEx responded to the reason for the temporary suspension of futures contracts, saying that due to the sharp fluctuations in the market in a short period of time, a large number of users instantly rushed in to trade, causing the OKEx contract to freeze and slow login. In order to provide better trading services to users, OKEx will upgrade its services again.

This is not the first time that a similar situation has occurred on the OKEx trading platform. There is even a jargon in the cryptocurrency circle: "pulling the network cable." That is, at a critical moment, the APP cannot be logged in, and the exchange is like actively pulling the network cable. Users cannot operate and can only watch their positions go bankrupt.

Someone expressed his doubts to "North Latitude 31 Degrees" : "This situation has never happened on foreign platforms. Since the machine is stuck and you can't log in, the worst that can happen is that the entire transaction will be stopped. But in fact, short sellers can trade crazily, and the trading volume continues to expand. Retail investors can't get in, and they dare to say that there are too many users."

This is not the first time that OK Group has faced rights protection. Many angry traders have targeted Xu Mingxing, and the methods used have even become more and more violent.

On the afternoon of March 24, the rights defenders went to OKCoin. Yang even threatened to commit suicide with the pesticide "DDV" and demanded compensation.

On March 28, someone made a special trip to Xu Mingxing's rural hometown in Jiangsu, threw paint on his 88-year-old grandfather, sent him paper money and paper flowers, and also forcibly snatched items from the home and harassed other family members.

On May 31, many investors gathered at the OKCoin office building to demand compensation for their losses. Some even climbed to the top of the building and threatened to jump off the building in exchange for compensation.

The reasons for the rights protection are: illegal futures, OKEx targeted liquidation, deletion of transaction data, unplugging network cables, etc., and they strongly criticized OKEx for maliciously manipulating the market.

CCTV once reported that there are many ways for token exchanges to make profits. Currently, there is no clear regulation worldwide.

03. Besieging Xu Mingxing

After confirming that Xu Mingxing was in the police station, many rights defenders were very excited. "How can we sleep in this exciting moment?"

Rights defenders dug up Xu Mingxing's information and spread it widely

The phone at the police station where Xu Mingxing works has been flooded with calls from rights activists.

Activists who are not from Shanghai were also unable to rush to the scene. They asked in the group many times, "Can we call the police? Can we record the incident via video?"

The rights defenders emphasized the need to rush to the scene as the police needed to count the amount of money, and voices of response came one after another in the rights protection group.

"Can you keep him steady? I'll order a high-speed rail ticket right away."

"I'll give 100,000 to anyone who can help me hold him back until tomorrow morning."

A whistleblower told 31 North Latitude: "As far as I know, more than 20 people have bought tickets and posted photos of them."

The eight rights defenders who had blocked Xu Mingxing at the door of the room left the police station at the urging of the police. They planned to hand over the materials in their hands to the Economic Investigation Office at 8 am on September 11.
