Innosilicon will launch a new Bitcoin mining machine with 44W/T energy efficiency leading the market

According to reliable sources, mining machine manufacturer Innosilicon will launch a new Bitcoin mining machine T3, which is more energy efficient than any mining machine currently on the market and will challenge the dominant position. An unnamed member of the company told Bitcoin Magazine that the upcoming mining machine, Terminator3 (T3), has been in development since February this year.

Innosilicon was founded in 2006 and is a world-class IP/IC design company that has also made significant progress in the field of mining machine production. With 12 years of ASIC development experience, the Innosilicon team has shifted its focus to the development of ASIC mining machines in recent years. It has currently launched a number of mining machines such as Litecoin, Zcash, Decred and Dash, and Ethereum mining machines are also about to be released.

The company launched the A1 Bitcoin miner as early as 2013, and has launched three energy-efficient Bitcoin miners this year. It is one of the first manufacturers to implement public AsicBoost in its hardware. Given that about 5% of Bitcoin blocks are currently mined using public AsicBoost, Innosilicon's machines may account for most of them.

About T3

The company’s third-generation Bitcoin miner, scheduled for release in December 2018, features several improvements over its predecessor’s architecture. “We experimented with many different recipes and options on T2T to understand the sweet spot for process and circuit architecture. As a result, both the circuit structure and process selection for T3 have been improved,” the company members said.

The T3 consumes only 44W per TH, making it likely to be the most energy-efficient miner on the market when it goes on sale. With its single-tube design and power consumption of about 2100w, the miner achieves the best energy efficiency ratio (44W/TH) using a processing chip manufactured by Samsung, which is similar to the groundbreaking processing chip developed by Samsung for its smartphones last year. The relevant personnel did not disclose whether the T3 uses an 8nm chip or a 10nm chip, and the specific specifications will be announced after production and before shipment.

The source claims that this chip, and its promised low power consumption, will give the T3 a near-unrivaled voltage. Like the T2T before it, the new T3 miner will be one of, if not the “only ASIC miner in the world that runs at 0.35 volts.” To put that in perspective, Apple and Intel’s processing chips, which power most of the world’s computers and smart devices, run at around 0.6 volts, and Bitmain’s S9 miner runs at 0.41 volts.

Energy efficiency leads the market

The same metric means that the T3 will also take advantage of its high energy efficiency, and our sources claim that the T3 will run at the fastest speed on the market, reaching 43Th/s. If this promise holds up in practice, then this would make the T3 200% faster than the current mainstream Bitcoin mining machines.

These specs will also make the T3 outperform other top-of-the-line products from other competitors. Recently, Microbit claimed that its Whatsminer M10 is the most energy-efficient, but its impressive efficiency parameters of 66-68W/T have been tied by Innosilicon's T2 Turbo-32T. If Innosilicon's upcoming T3 product can live up to its potential, the M10 will also fall behind. As described by our sources, the design positioning of the T3 is very close to the latest ASIC chip released by Bitfury. The Bitfury Clarke is a 14nm chip that promises a power efficiency of 55 millijoules per GH (55mj/gh) with a voltage requirement of 0.3V.

According to company members, the circuit architecture behind the T3 was built independently from scratch, although Innosilicon took references from Samsung’s manufacturing process. Samsung also entered the cryptocurrency space this year when it revealed that it was producing ASIC processing chips for Halong mining.

"Samsung is our manufacturing process supplier, not our design partner. We use some of their production lines to experiment with different combinations, so we use their nanometer chip process to invent and build our own circuits. The circuit design is ours, and the process model mainly comes from theirs and our own data calibration." Our source also said that the price-performance ratio of T3 is as high as that of T2T, or even higher, and the company will measure the production volume according to "demand."
