Bitmain Cryptocurrency Index – Transparent, real-time, representative cryptocurrency reference price

On November 30 , BTC.com block browser added a special page for the Bitmain Crypto Index launched by Bitmain . The index is a transparent, timely, representative, and methodology-based index product launched to meet the market participation and investment needs of the blockchain industry, institutional and individual investors. The index tracks the performance of the largest and most liquid cryptocurrencies and is denominated in US dollars.

The service publishes 1) real-time prices per second and 2) daily reference prices ( published at 10:00 am Hong Kong time every day ) throughout the year . The index covers a variety of underlying currencies such as currencies, decentralized platforms, and anonymous digital assets. On the day of publication, the following single digital currency indices and composite indices were included:

- 17 single digital currency indices (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, EOS, Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, Ripple, TRON, Dash, Zcash , Stellar, IOTA , NEO, Monero, Cardano , OmiseGo, ICON ) and

- Bitmain Crypto Large Cap 10 Index - A basket of market capitalization weighted composite index, with the total index components accounting for more than 90% of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization. The initial weights at the time of index release are as follows:

Jihan Wu, co-founder of Bitmain, said: "In order to better serve our existing community users and upcoming financial institutions, Bitmain is pleased to launch this series of institutional-level digital currency index services to provide a transparent price reference for digital currency miners, users and investors. " All published indices are timestamped and signed by Bitmain's private key, which can be verified by any third party. This should be the first index product on the market that provides on-chain smart contract scripts, which may lead the development of on-chain financial products in the future. In a few years, the scale of the digital currency market will be much larger than it is now, and a trustworthy, transparent and investable price target will be an important infrastructure in the market.

The index is owned by Bitmaintech Pte. Ltd. and is compiled by the Bitmain Index Operations Committee (the “Committee”) which is responsible for the compilation of the index methodology and monthly weighting revisions to ensure that the index remains timely and representative. The Committee is composed of senior executives from Bitmain who have a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the digital currency market. The index calculation and publication follows a rules-based methodology and the data is collected from a range of qualified exchanges [1] . The selection criteria for qualified exchanges fully refer to a variety of factors such as the exchange's reputation, jurisdiction, price transparency, compliance level, stability and trading volume. Currently, qualified exchanges include: Bitfinex , Binance , Bitstamp, Bittrex, GDAX, Gemini, Huobi , Itbit , Kraken , OKEX, and Poloniex.
