Notice | Zcoin will hard fork at 12:00 UTC on December 10

Recently, Zcoin announced the official release of the new POW algorithm MTP, which is expected to be activated on December 10, 2018.

XZC will undergo a hard fork upgrade at 12:00 UTC on December 10. At that time, the mining algorithm will be upgraded to the MTP algorithm, and the existing mining software will no longer support XZC mining. XZC miners are requested to pay attention to the official announcement of the F2Pool website and use the correct software after the hard fork.

At the same time, miners who use full-node wallets to store XZC, please upgrade the wallet to version 0.13.7.1 before the XZC hard fork. The old version of the wallet will not work properly after the upgrade.

Description of the new algorithm :

MTP is designed to be memory-intensive, which increases the cost of ASIC development and uses memory bottlenecks to reduce the computing power advantage of ASICs. In theory, even if ASICs corresponding to the MTP algorithm are developed, their computing power is not much different from that of commodity hardware (CPU or GPU).

On the other hand, when a computer is infected with malware and becomes part of a botnet, the user will quickly notice the high memory usage and remove the malware, which can effectively limit the botnet's control over a large amount of computing power.

Ultimately, "equal computing" will be achieved, computing power will be distributed more evenly, and everyone can mine.

What miners need to do :

If you are using the Zcoin full node wallet, please upgrade your wallet to version 0.13.7.1 before the hard fork.

Wallets with versions lower than 0.13.7.1 will not work properly after the hard fork.

After the hard fork:

FPGA or ASIC mining machines switch mining currencies to mine other Lyra2z algorithm currencies.

GPU miners, switch to new mining software. (After the hard fork, the software download address will be published in the latest version of XZC mining tutorial on the official website of F2Pool)

For CPU mining machines, switch to new mining software, which is currently under development.
