Grin wallet configuration tutorial

Currently, the Grin mainnet has not yet been launched (expected to be launched at 2:00 am on January 16, 2019, Beijing time). The following operations are all performed on a test network called floonet.

Note:

1. Grin does not have the concept of digital currency address as before, only a form similar to [ip:port].

2. When transferring money through the Grin wallet, both parties must be online at the same time to complete the transaction.

3. The party receiving the money must start monitoring the payment.

4. The mining pool settlement time is from 8:00 to 12:00 Beijing time every day. Please make sure that the wallet is in the transaction monitoring state during this period. Please refer to step 6 for details.

1. Linux version of Grin official wallet

1. Enter Terminal and use wget to download grin

wget https://github.com/mimblewimble/grin/releases/download/v0.5.2/grin-v0.5.2-478131988-linux-amd64.tgz

2. Unzip grin

tar -zxvf grin-v0.5.2-478131988-linux-amd64.tgz

3. Start the grin full node. ./grin --floonet server start

4. Initialize the wallet./grin --floonet wallet init

Enter the password twice as prompted and press Enter.

The content in the second red box is the mnemonic phrase, please keep it properly.

5. Check the balance ./grin --floonet wallet info and enter the password as prompted.

6. Modify the wallet configuration to listen for external access to the grin wallet configuration file directory ~/.grin/floo/grin-wallet.toml

api_listen_interface = "0.0.0.0"

7. Start the monitoring payment mode./grin --floonet wallet listen

Please note that the default port is 13415

8. Your final payment address is

If you enter "13415" in Port Number and it shows that the port is closed, you need to proceed to step 8 to map the intranet port.

9. After getting the address, you can submit the payment address to the mining pool. Please note that the settlement time of the mining pool is from 8:00 to 12:00 Beijing time every day. Please make sure that the wallet is in the monitoring transaction state during this time period. Please refer to step 6 for details.

Notice:

If you confirm that this machine has a public IP, you can receive payment now.

10. Send Grin Tokens

./grin --floonet wallet send -d address:port amount

address:port is the sender address and port

amout is the amount of Grin tokens sent

Enter password

11. Import mnemonics

./grin --floonet wallet init --recover

After being prompted to enter the mnemonic, enter the password twice to confirm

Overview:

As mentioned earlier, Grin transfers money through ip:port. When the user does not have a public network ip, the two parties of the transaction cannot communicate through the intranet ip. In this case, the intranet port mapping tool can solve this problem.

1. Register ngrok

Visit https://dashboard.ngrok.com/get-started to register. It is recommended to register Github first and log in through Github third-party. Because ngrok uses Google verification code service, verification cannot be passed in China.

2. Download ngrok
