There are currently over 5,000 Bitcoin ATMs around the world

The total number of Bitcoin ATMs (BTMs) worldwide has reached 5,000 for the first time, CoinATMRadar confirmed on June 24.
At last count, there are now 5,006 independent BTMs in about 90 countries where cryptocurrency users can buy and sell Bitcoin (BTC). Some machines offer both services simultaneously.
The emergence of more and more locations and formats limits the long-term growth of the BTM industry.
There were 150 installations in June, or about 6 per day. General Bytes recently surpassed Genesis Coin as the manufacturer with the most installed BTMs.
It’s not just the “classic” BTM model that is expanding in 2019, but other methods of procuring BTC. A deal with coin-tagging operator Coinstar earlier this year brought Bitcoin functionality to over 2,200 locations across the United States.
The U.S. currently has more than half of the world’s BTMs, at 3,229, and a new pilot program this month is bringing the machines to Circle K convenience stores in Arizona and Nevada.
“We are excited to be working with such a respected organization like Circle K,” said Marc Grens, president and co-founder of cryptocurrency provider DigitalMint.

“This partnership opens the door to massively expand access to Bitcoin into new markets around the world.”

Increased competition in the BTM market could reduce the fees charged to users, which are often significantly higher than online alternatives.
Other options, such as purchasing vouchers, are also becoming increasingly popular with users, who are keen to avoid cumbersome KYC requirements.
