Ethereum core developers oppose "blocking any attempt to launch ProgPoW"

According to BlockBeats, Ethereum core developer Péter Szilágyi tweeted today that he is not a fan of ProgPoW because it is controversial. However, despite this, the following position sets a very dangerous precedent. In the history of Ethereum, there has never been a client development team that unilaterally blocked a function. The future of Ethereum depends on developers working together.
This statement is a response to Artem Vorotnikov’s remarks yesterday about the ProgPoW proposal. On April 29, Artem Vorotnikov tweeted that OpenEthereum will block any attempt to enable ProgPoW on Ethereum.
Earlier in February, it was reported that Ethereum core developers planned to promote ProgPoW because it could make Ethereum mining more ASIC-resistant. However, the proposal was opposed by the community and many developers. Then on February 27, members of the Ethereum community launched a petition against ProgPoW, indicating that stakeholders had objections to activating ProgPoW. Then in March, the ETH core developer meeting discussed the vulnerability of the ProgPow algorithm that "is not ASIC-resistant", and temporarily decided to redefine the mining algorithm as "Ethash 2.0".
