Someone Moved $1 Billion Worth of Bitcoin

Bitcoin transactions are publicly recorded in the blockchain. On June 27, someone transferred 101,857.24568009 bitcoins, worth about $933 million.

This immediately sparked a lot of speculation and media attention, with people speculating that it might belong to a wealthy Bitcoin owner or investor, or to a digital currency exchange.

The latter is more likely, as exchanges may need to transfer funds under certain circumstances. A Reddit user claimed that the address was the cold wallet of the exchange Bitstamp on the custodian platform BitGo. BitGo Marketing Director Debra Bar neither confirmed nor denied it, saying that it was customer privacy.
