Good morning everyone!

The topic I want to share with you today is "Filecoin - Leading the New Era of Web3.0". Let me talk about my understanding of this. IPFS Force Zone has been deeply engaged in IPFS and Filecoin, exploring related technologies, building the entire ecosystem, serving the community, and serving the ecosystem. The vision of IPFS Force Zone is to become a service provider for Web3.0, so we have some experience in this regard and would like to share some with you.

Web 3.0 : LESS TRUST MORE TRUTH

First of all, I want to ask a question: How far are we from Web3.0? This topic has been discussed for several years. Before answering this question, there is a question: What is Web3.0? I believe different people have their own understanding. At the end of August last year, the Web3.0 Summit in Berlin, Germany was held for 3 days, but I stayed for a week and communicated with many people. At the summit, there were many discussions and statements about Web3.0. I have two pictures here. The picture on the right is the founder of the IPFS/Filecoin protocol. He also made very important discussions and speeches at the conference and shared a lot of things, including IPFS/Filecoin and other related infrastructure for building the third generation of the Internet. At the same time, many other topics were discussed at the conference, including DID decentralized identity, DeFi decentralized finance, and DAO decentralized autonomous organization. So at the Web3.0 conference, everyone talked a lot about decentralization. On the left is a flag, which is the Web3.0 summit site. There are many wonderful places. This flag points out the essence of Web3.0: LESS TRUST MORE TRUTH .

From 1.0 to 2.0 to 3.0 : Blockchain is the cornerstone of Web3.0

Web 1.0 is represented by portal websites. All Internet users are basically Internet browsers who just retrieve and view content from the Internet. As for the second generation of the Internet, we are now in the era of the second generation of the Internet. The obvious feature of this generation of the Internet is that every participant is also a content contributor, and the entire ecosystem is a network dominated by social media. This is the era of 2.0. We know about WeChat, Weibo, Douyin, Kuaishou, etc. Everyone is both a producer and a person browsing the Internet.

When it comes to Web3.0, the entire industry is actually somewhat dissatisfied or confused about the development of the Internet so far. One very important reason is that in the early days of the Internet, everyone hoped that the entire Internet would be shared and owned by all humans, and decentralized, rather than controlled by oligarchs. In fact, we now see that there are some shadows of oligarchs behind every application. So in Web3.0, we hope to build a decentralized network that can establish trust relationships on its own, rather than trusting large companies, some oligarchs or some institutions. We hope to see more decentralized applications. In fact, all applications can be decentralized applications if the network can establish trust on its own.

Therefore, we believe that the cornerstone of Web3.0 is trust, and the network itself has trust. We also mentioned yesterday that blockchain is the most mature technology for building trust. We can think of blockchain as a machine for building trust. So now there is a consistent view, basically a consensus: we can trust blockchain, and blockchain is also the cornerstone of Web3.0.

With blockchain, the combination of blockchain and the Internet, and decentralization, the entire network will be more secure, because trust relationships can be established by blockchain, our entire application can be more decentralized, people can participate in it, and it will be more efficient and reliable. And if we achieve the decentralization of data and content, the ownership of the content will be clearer. In addition, with the combination of 5G and the Internet of Things, our network scale will be larger.

Therefore, blockchain is an important technical support for Web3.0. This is a very critical point and this is the consensus among everyone now.

Blockchain has been around for 10 years, why has Web3.0 not yet been truly launched?

We are now talking about Web3.0, but we know that we are now in the era of Web2.0. So here is a question: Blockchain has been developed for more than ten years. Blockchain was born with Bitcoin in 2008. After more than ten years of development, why has Web3.0 not really started? What is the reason?

Let's take a brief look back. After the birth of Bitcoin in 2008, other currencies were created for a long time. However, the entire blockchain technology field was limited to the storage and transfer of value, and could not do other things. At that time, many currencies appeared, but in fact, only Bitcoin and Litecoin have survived to this day. I believe that many people are almost unfamiliar with the other currencies, because the blockchain applications at that time were relatively simple.

A few years later, there was a breakthrough in blockchain, which can be said to be a revolution. That is the birth of Ethereum, which supports smart contracts and aims to build a global computer. At this time, calculations can be performed on the blockchain, and trusted computing is realized by the blockchain. In addition, Ethereum supports other things, such as it can do a lot of comprehensive exploration. At that time, the blockchain can be traced, can store evidence, can do proof of rights, and can build a strong ecosystem. So after that, we started to have DeFi and DAO, so everyone can be in this ecosystem. When Ethereum appeared smart contracts that could be implemented, the world opened up all of a sudden, and the blockchain showed an explosive growth. Especially from 2010 to 2017, the entire DAO was very powerful, and this year's DeFi is also based on these.

Based on this, we have to ask a question: Is Web3.0 here? Actually, it hasn't. What we can see is that some DApps of Web3.0 applications are still very limited. What are the limitations? This is basically related to finance. The reason why DeFi is so popular is that its current blockchain ecosystem can support this thing, and nothing else can support it. Yesterday, a guest mentioned that due to the arrival of blockchain and the data era, our data has actually become an important production factor, and in the entire development process, I believe that data will become an increasingly important production factor, but in the blockchain world, data is avoided because blockchain has not solved the problem of data storage, and has not achieved reliable data existence and exchange, that is, blockchain has not solved the storage problem. We can now see that almost all applications and all social networks are related to data, and data management applications account for the vast majority. What we are currently involved in blockchain are some light content or no content, only things that contain value exchange, so in this case, Web3.0 must be truly opened up, and trust must be added to social networks. It is necessary to solve the problem of storage and the problem of data flow.

IPFS/Filecoin : Leading the New Era of Web 3.0

Who will solve the problem of data circulation? We have done a lot of exploration in this regard. Filecoin, which was launched this year, is designed to solve this problem. Filecoin's vision and goal is to become a cornerstone network that carries human civilization. On this basis, all data of human civilization can exist, circulate and trade in this network. With the support of Filecoin, we believe that this is the right time to upgrade the Internet and enter the era of Web3.0.

Let's review the development of blockchain. We believe that blockchain 1.0 was when Bitcoin was born in 2008. For 6 years, 1.0 was all about value storage and value transfer. When Ethereum was born in 2014, there were smart contracts, which enabled trusted computing and financial applications to be developed. Filecoin will be launched this year, and after another 6 years, we believe that the launch of Filecoin will open another window, because the use of trusted data will greatly expand the application of blockchain. We found that there is an interesting 6-year cycle here. Does this indicate that the development of blockchain is basically a 6-year cycle? Of course, there are many other problems to be solved in blockchain, such as cross-chain, side chain, how to improve TPS, and how to expand significantly. I believe that there may be a new breakthrough in the next 6 years, perhaps in 2020.

So now we can say that we have a trusted network, trusted computing, and trusted storage. These are all combined with blockchain, and the entire building of Web3.0 can be supported.

So we will enter the era of the third generation of the Internet. The future belongs to Web3.0, a distributed, trustless digital world, an emerging network where users can control their own data and identity.

Everyone will ask a question: For decentralized storage, or blockchain-based storage, there have been many attempts in the past. Why do you think Filecoin can ignite this fire now? What is the reason? Because Filecoin is different from previous technologies. The goal of IPFS/Filecoin is very different from previous technologies. The whole goal is to break the limitations of data. We started to say that IPFS/Filecoin is to become the cornerstone of human civilization data. The cornerstone is to establish a universal tradable market and a universal network. It is necessary to establish a standard for storing data, and all applications can be based on the same data platform.

Yesterday, a guest mentioned that each time an application is built, a chain is created. 99 applications mean 99 chains. In fact, the data underneath is not connected. The goal of Filecoin is to connect all the data. We are in a unified network. The data in the network can serve this application or another application, so the data layer and the application layer are separated. In this way, other blockchains or Filecoin’s own smart contracts can realize the exchange of value, and Filecoin itself can realize data circulation. The two can be combined.

After the combination, the entire distributed storage network platform has been established, and a global free data trading market has been established. In this way, we can say that we have shifted from the IT era to the DT era. An important sign of the DT era is that data can flow freely and there is a unified standard for data flow. At present, the data owned by each company is not transferable. Only in this way can the blockchain technology be more secure and more reliable, and because global technologies can flow freely, it will also be more economical.

At the same time, as a blockchain, Filecoin has actually made a lot of bold explorations. As a blockchain itself, it uses some very advanced new technologies, which are adopted for the first time. For example, Filecoin is establishing an open and universal storage free market, and using consensus proof to ensure storage security. At the same time, Filecoin is the first to effectively use PoS, which is a useful consensus. We now see that almost all chains, such as PoW, waste energy, and some PoS rely on mortgages to waste the ecosystem, but Filecoin is not like this. Filecoin is your real storage, which is useful as your share.

IPFS Force Zone: Building the Filecoin ecosystem together to welcome the Web3.0 era

The entire Filecoin will start the ecosystem within the entire ecosystem, and the launch and evolution of the ecosystem is definitely not smooth sailing, and there are many challenges. IPFS Force Zone has faced many challenges since its inception, so we have always gathered some ambitious people or technical personnel and ecosystem personnel who are very interested in the industry to face the challenges with us and build the ecosystem together.

In the ecosystem, we showed an ecosystem map at the Ecological Conference some time ago. Since IPFS Force Zone has been working here for a long time, we can see that there are many projects and funds in the ecosystem map, such as the Ethereum Foundation, the Web3.0 Foundation, and some universities. It is a great honor that IPFS Force Zone, as the only representative of the Chinese region, is also on the list of the entire ecosystem. We hope that through our joint efforts in the future, more communities or companies in China will be able to enter the ecosystem and be recognized by the world.

An important reason for entering the ecosystem and being recognized by other organizations around the world is that we have carried out a lot of knowledge promotion and development, cooperation and research. The Force Zone has an open event every week to preach. We have held more than 120 open days now, and we have a protocol academy for in-depth discussions on technology. Currently, the number of people participating in the event has exceeded 100,000.

I believe that many people here who are related to IPFS/Filecoin may have participated in the activities of the Force Zone. Our activities are not only in Shanghai (China), but we also have them in Japan and South Korea. The two pictures in the middle are me in Berlin and Barcelona, discussing solutions or other things with the staff of the Protocol Labs. These are offline discussions. In fact, more are online, and we have a lot of online discussions.

As for the Force Zone, we hope to use our technology to build an ecosystem, use our developers to develop software, serve the ecosystem, and develop applications. Today, many people are interested in IPFS/Filecoin mining. We have a very smart mining system that can fully assist everyone in design and deployment. We also provide consulting or operation and maintenance.

We have a Filecoin blockchain browser, which is currently widely used as a standard browser, and it is open source. We are also very happy that other Filecoin browsers have emerged after we open sourced it, which shows that the ecosystem is gradually prospering with our promotion. Another very important thing is our wallet Filwallet.ai.

Here I want to show you our investment in the entire mining, and also give you a reference. Filecoin's open source and mining started from testing, which actually started on February 14, 2019 last year. We started to enter the ecosystem for testing or development, and to contribute code from the first day of open source. In the first half of 2019, because we were doing clusters at that time, there was almost no other company doing clusters in the entire ecosystem. We were also very high in the overall computing power ranking, ranking first for a long time, and our computing power basically reached more than 30%. On December 12, 2019, the test network was launched. In fact, there was a sensational event on that day. At that time, we used 3 nodes to test. The 3 nodes were the top three nodes except the official nodes. Our first node went online, and the second node surpassed the first node. The third node went online and surpassed the first two nodes. We did a good test, which was basically based on the subsequent research.

The second part of the first phase of the entire test network was around the Spring Festival this year. During this period, we also had three nodes there for testing. Relatively speaking, we were very low-key at that time. For a long time, no one knew who the three nodes were, although many people were asking who the nodes were. Later, some people knew that t01346 and t01201 were our nodes, but t09999 had been at the top of the list for a long time, and until it was offline, no one knew who the node was. Because we want to serve the community with technology, rather than misleading everyone, so some publicity was not done.

On May 15, the second phase of the testnet started again. We were the first to go online at an astonishing speed. Almost all the communities, including the Protocol Academy, did not believe that it could be so fast. Later, we worked with them and said that it was okay. We could do a challenge if everyone did not believe it. After that, the Protocol Labs personally challenged us to prove that we could indeed be so fast. Two days later, we successfully proved this. During this period, we set a benchmark for the entire Filecoin ecosystem, so many people were catching up. I think this is also a contribution to the data, that is, we set a higher goal.

Because the Force Zone is completely engaged in software and service, we hope that when the test network reaches a certain scale this year, our main network will be launched soon. During this period, we hope to use our technology, our previous experience, and the pitfalls we have encountered to serve everyone. We hope that everyone can work together to expand and improve the ecosystem, so we have launched the Global Partner Program. We hope that our Force technology services can empower the global community, and we can serve and work together with everyone.

IPFS Force Zone is a Web3.0 infrastructure service provider. This is our vision. We uphold the cultural values of value, co-construction, sharing, and glory. We hope to develop together with the ecosystem, and hope that everyone will meet the challenges together and welcome the arrival of Web3.0. So we hope that everyone will face the challenges with us, join the game, and welcome the future together. Thank you!
